Orcs Must Die! 2 Booster Pack DLC “Are We There Yeti?”

Get your orc-skin sweaters out of storage because you’re heading up north in the “Are We There Yeti?” Booster Pack for Orcs Must Die! 2. Announced today by Robot Entertainment, the new booster pack gives players three enormous new frozen cavern levels to defend. It won’t be easy! Yeti and Goblin Sapper mobs will do everything they can to take down War Mages and their trusty trap layouts. In addition to new monsters and levels, the booster pack includes three new Endless Mode level conversions, three new defenses for the Spellbook, and new character costumes inspired by the Orcs Must Die! community! The “Are We There Yeti?” booster pack for Orcs Must Die! 2 will be available on Steam for $4.99 on November 1st.

“Are We There Yeti?” Booster Pack Features:

  • Three Chilling New Levels – Venture to the frozen caverns of the north where new rifts are opening up. Defend the Yeti Den, The Hive, and the enormous Chilled Cavern against new enemies and old!
  • New Endless Mode Conversions – Passages, Chilled Cavern, and fan favorite level The Tower have all been converted for Endless Mode action!
  • A Deadly High-Five – Place the new Spike Wall along a hallway and surprise unsuspecting enemies when it springs outward, stabbing them in the face before tossing them through the air or over nearby ledges!
  • Dwarven Missile Launcher – An explosive new secondary weapon that fires mana missiles, dealing out damage and tossing monsters in every direction.
  • The Guardian Trinket – Your Paladins, Archers, and Dwarves have always had your back, and now you can repay the favor. Bring the Guardian Trinket with you to passively heal your Guardians. Use the new trinket’s active ability to revive fallen Guardians for battle!
  • New Creatures – Take cover from the enormous new Yetis as they charge through the rifts hurling frozen snowballs at your head! Keep your distance, though, because when the Yetis take enough damage, they become enraged, and will charge to attack you, leaping over any barricades that stand in their way. Don’t spend too much time fighting the Yetis because the new Goblin Sappers will be rushing through the level to disable your traps! If a Goblin Sapper finds a trap to his liking, he explodes, disabling nearby traps for a brief time.
  • New Character Costumes! – Inspired by two of the most prolific Orcs Must Die! 2 video-streamers, the latest set of costumes are a hat-tip to all of the incredibly passionate Orcs Must Die!community. Equip the new “Backdraft” costume for the War Mage or the “Skull Ninja” costume for the Sorceress.

OMD!2 Fire & Water Booster Pack Review

– Scott Ellison

Our Score: 4 / 5 – Awesome

This is DLC for Orcs Must Die! 2

Fire and Water don’t mix, and each can be deadly all its own. But in Orcs Must Die! 2’s DLC, they are a lethal combination requiring you to think of new ways to put down these new Orc elementals, because after all – they must die.

The experience itself is quite short, but the introduction of new Water and Fire elementals actually brings a whole new challenge to Orcs Must Die! 2. Before this, there would be simple, squishy orcs you’re used to decimating. Introduced in OMD!2 were the rock elementals that after initial destruction, would split into two smaller beings to fully put down.

Water elementals bring the same type of tactics, but in reverse. If two water elementals are killed near each other, they will combine into a unified enemy that must be killed all over again. Fire elementals are huge, hulking lava-based creatures that when initially destroyed break off into four smaller fire beings that must be extinguished. They move fast and can engulf you in flames and eventually earn you a death and loss of points if you’re not careful like me.

With this new DLC, makes it it’s own mode called “Fire & Water” which includes 3 new defensible levels. They are more or less similar to other levels seen in the base game, but feel a lot more vertically, but restrict enemy movement to narrow corridors to do massive damage if you can slow them

The Fire & Water Booster Pack is just that, it’s a booster to existing content and not a huge breadth of content. But will provide about an hour of orc slaying. There’s nothing wrong with the content, it’s entertaining and introduces new enemies for new tactics. More content for Orcs Must Die! 2 is very much a good thing. Buy it!

Orcs Must Die! 2 Review

image

– Scott Ellison

Our Score: 5 / 5 – Incredible

The War Mage is back! And this time, the Sorceress and antagonist from the original game has been banished from her throne and must help extinguish the Orcs that threaten to go through the Rift. New traps, new weapons, and new dungeons to defend await you in the bigger and decidedly better game.

Orcs Must Die! 2 assumes you’ve already played the first and drops you into your first defensible area with little tutorial outside of the loading screens. The first level is no easy task, but it is far less challenging than the levels that follow. It’s entirely possible that you’ll make it through the first level even if you haven’t played it before. Cutscenes open the game and in-between acts to inform you on the story and allow for the characters to have a conversation rather than the one-liner banter that occurs during levels.

The gameplay formula is simple: Set traps and take direct action of either the War Mage or Sorceress. At the beginning of each location, you have an infinite amount of time and finite resources to place traps in the environment from your spellbook that will increase over time as you buy more traps, weapons, and upgrades for them outside of gameplay. Then, you press a button to unleash the horde and begin fighting. You can attack with your crossbow, shotgun, or staff as the War Mage or use spells in conjunction with traps for deadly combos.

The biggest and best addition to the game follows the storyline and makes it so another player can appear beside you. Yes, there is online co-op. This was one of my complaints of Orcs Must Die! and Robot Entertainment heard everyone very clearly to include co-op in the sequel. The result is a fully realized game with increased strategy instead of being the “one-man show”.

The story is shorter, but makes up for it in Modes, like with the new Endless Mode which allows you play until you can’t go on any longer. The benefit to this mode isn’t only to brag to your friends via Leaderboard, but to earn skulls, the game’s currency to spend on the in-game store to buy and upgrade traps. Other modes such as the Weekly Challenge last for one week and task you with specific limitations and options in order to complete the task. Have the original game? There’s a separate Classic Mode to play ten, hand-selected levels from the original, which is a great reward to fans and veterans.

Visuals are a delight, providing a slick, cartoonish art style which is rich in detail and features countless gallons of blood and gibs. It’s not overly violent, but shows a discernible cause and effect by accentuates killing orcs. You can almost smell the must of some of these places and feel the warmth of the torches that burn to illuminate these areas. The environment is conducive to the experience.

A lot of the sounds are re-used, but new dialogue for cutscenes and banter while in a match are funny and genuinely entertaining. The War Mage sounding like Bruce Campbell and The Sorceress coming off as a spoiled princess thrust into combat. Music gets reused in some spots, like for the victory dance which has a hilarious animation no matter how many times you see it. The Soundtrack is an optional purchase, but features some amazing songs and is lighthearted but with moody organs and guitars.

Orcs Must Die! 2 is everything Orcs Must Die! should have been. The original game was a success and laid the groundwork for what exists here. It’s fast, intense, and a riot. There are plenty of modes and difficulties to enjoy the game both offline and on. Grab your mouse, keyboard and a friend and spend a few hours at a time slaying orcs together.

Orc Must Die! 2 has a Fire & Water Booster Pack

Robot Entertainment today announced Fire & Water, the first booster pack for Orcs Must Die! 2. The booster pack features three brand new levels and three new Endless Mode conversions that can be played in single-player or with a friend in co-op. Players who download the pack will also find a new array of traps to help them combat terrifying new elemental enemies.

Hellish new Fire Lords and Fire Elementals crumble when killed, leaving behind dangerous Firelings that will hunt the player down and explode when they get too close! Slippery Water Lords and Water Elementals dwindle into pools of water when killed, but don’t count them out of the fight! When Waterlings find dormant puddles, they’ll absorb the stagnant water and grow into new Water Elementals!

War Mages will have access to three exciting new traps to add to their arsenal, as well.  The Web Spinner is a new wall trap that ensnares hallways full of passing monsters in a sticky tangle of webs, slowing them down to buy precious time. Ceiling Darts turn your fortress into a temple of doom for orcs, dropping from the ceiling to fire deadly darts in every direction. If the orcs make it past your defenses the first time around, you can give them another dose of pain with the new Floor Portal. Place the floor portal anywhere on the ground. Unsuspecting enemies who step on it will be magically teleported back to the beginning of the level!

The Fire & Water booster pack for Orcs Must Die! 2 will be available on Steam for $4.99 on August 29th.

Fire & Water Booster Pack Features:

  • New Levels to Defend – The fight for survival isn’t over yet! Battle your way through three exciting new levels in single-player or co-op – Traffic Jammed, Double Decker, and The West Wing.
  • New Endless Mode Conversions – Think you’ve mastered Endless Mode? Think again! The Fire & Water booster pack features three new Endless Mode level conversions to hold your ground on – The Library, Double Decker, and The West Wing.
