Second Map by MAXIM for Gears of War: Judgment is ‘Dreadnought’

On May 15, download the second MAXIM Map, Dreadnought, available for OverRun players free of charge for a limited time. A brief description of the level is below:

Dreadnought: In the months immediately following Emergence Day, the COG managed to capture some Locust Berserkers.  Thinking that a ship at sea would be safe from an underground enemy, the COG decided to transport their prize to a secure research facility via the CNV Pomeroy.  Little did they know that the Locust had waterborne beasts from the underground rivers of the Hollow, or that the Locust soldiers would use them so relentlessly to rescue the captured Berserkers.  The Pomeroy was corralled into a narrow channel and forced ashore, where the Locust sent a mass of troops to assault and overwhelm the beached vessel.

Gears of War: Judgment New DLC: ‘Call to Arms Map Pack’ gives Three New Maps and New Multiplayer Mode on April 23rd

Microsoft and Epic Studios today announced the second expansion in the “Gears of War: Judgment” multiplayer experience, the Call to Arms Map Pack, coming to VIP Season Pass holders on Tuesday, April 23 via Xbox LIVE, and available worldwide April 30. Developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, the Call to Arms Map Pack brings players three new multiplayer maps, a brand-new mode called “Master at Arms,” and six armor and gun skins for customizing your characters and weapons.

Set against the backdrop of the Locust invasion of Halvo Bay, all three new maps provide a mix of close quarters and vertical combat, keeping Gearheads immersed in the action. The Call to Arms Map Pack provides 10 new Achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

New Maps:

  • Terminal: The speed and ferocity of the Locust invasion took Halvo Bay completely by surprise. Residents scrambled to evacuate by every means possible, and COG forces were called in to maintain order as martial law was enforced. However, the Locust showed no mercy, and gave no quarter; they swept through train terminals like this one to take advantage of the close quarters and sheer number of defenseless humans trapped within its walls. Sometimes, COG forces could hold the line long enough for a final evacuation, but too many lost their lives in defense of the people and the land they loved.
  • Blood Drive: As casualties started to mount, the staff at Halvo Memorial quickly began what would become the largest triage effort in the history of Sera. Their “Give Blood Today” campaign inspired a global blood drive in support of COG forces and wounded civilians. Sadly, Halvo fell quickly, and the hospital became a battlefront instead of a sanctuary. The seed of hope was planted, however, and government-run Memorial hospitals across the country mobilized to keep the effort alive until Jacinto Memorial was the last standing bastion of hope for the people of Sera.
  • Boneyard: The concept of traditional memorial services had to be suspended due to the constant stream and alarming volume of casualties as Sera fell victim to the Locust Horde. Memorial grounds quickly became boneyards. Unmarked holes became grave sites and mausoleums were filled with the nameless remains of the fallen, their skeletons piled into heaps. Tread lightly, you never know what, or who, you’re walking on, and one day you’re bound to join them.

The Call to Arms Map Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE for 1000 Microsoft Points. Players who purchase the “Gears of War: Judgment” VIP Season Pass will receive early access to map packs and a 25 percent savings versus purchasing them individually.

New Mode: “Master At Arms”

This new free-for-all game mode exclusive to “Gears of War: Judgment” will test the true range of your soldiering skills. The goal is to get a kill with each of the 20 different available weapons, without resorting to melee or grenade tactics. Every successful kill will automatically advance you to the next available weapon until you have used them all and proven your skill as a true Master at Arms.

Debuting and playable this week at PAX Prime in Seattle (booth #412) this new multiplayer experience throws team tactics out the window as each player battles for survival and kills versus all other players. GONDOLA – The Coastal Villa Apartments are part of the exclusive Halvo community located in the prestigious Agora foothills.  Residents enjoy a host of interior upgrades, and each unit features an ocean view from a private patio or balcony.  This quiet, gated community is located only a short gondola ride from the renowned shops and businesses of our active and thriving coastal community.

Bulletstorm Review

Our Score: 4 / 5 – Awesome

I recommend that you listen to the song “Boom” by P.O.D. while reading this review.  That song is Bulletstorm in a nutshell: a crazy-ass, over-the-top, hellzone of gunfire, explosions, and bromance.  I can guarantee that unless you’re a soccer mom, there is something in Bulletstorm that will make you smile, or more.

Bulletstorm is a first person shooter with a twist: You get points for everything you do, and even more points if you do it well.  The skillshots, or special kills, are hilarious and fun. There are skillshots for shooting certain parts a certain way, combining certain things, or using weapons other than guns.

Speaking of guns, Bulletstorm’s guns are awesome.  They start normal, then get more and more ridiculous. You start with a standard assault rifle, but eventually you get a grenade-launching flail, a sniper with a controllable bullet, and a quad-barrel shotgun.  Every weapon also has an alternate fire mode, usually an extra-powerful or explosive shot.  You won’t use them too much, but they are fun.

Bulletstorm is mostly a singleplayer game with an emphasis on getting a higher score than your friends.  The campaign has many beautiful locales, and a nice cast of characters. You play as Grayson Hunt, a space pirate who is always cracking a snarky one liner and has a penchant for destruction.  It is nearly always fun and keeps things fresh by introducing a new weapon once in a while, but it does get a little slow at times.  The calm parts are really calm and the intense parts are really intense.  At six to eight hours, the Bulletstorm campaign feels just right.  Overall, the plot is good enough to keep you hooked, but it’s no Illiad.  The campaign also has a co-op vibe, since you are always with someone.  Unfortunately, there is no campaign co-op.

Bulletstorm has one true online mode: Anarchy.  It is basically Halo’s Horde Mode, where you fight off waves of enemies.  The twist is that you must get a certain score to advance to the next wave.  There are also many new skillshots which involve teamwork, such as someone kicking an enemy into the air while another shoots him.  Anarchy is cool for a while, but it isn’t incredibly addictive.

Bulletstorm also has a mode called Echoes, where you run through segments of the campaign and try for the high score.  It features the same skillshot system.  It reminds you of the Arcade mode from Call of Duty 4, except shorter.  While you may get a little enjoyment out of this, it’s not much.

This game is absolutely gorgeous.  The environments are varied and lush, with plenty of places to explore.  It keeps that destroyed-city feel in many parts, and the aesthetics match it.  The sound design is also awesome.  Everything has a distinct sound that is crisp and clear.  On PC, this game will require a good rig to run.  I have a mid-range laptop which had to run the game on low to get it to work.  On consoles, the game runs well.  I did encounter a very annoying glitch in which you get stuck in/on the environment at times with no explanation.  Since you can’t jump, the only option was to reset the game.

Bulletstorm is an awesome shooter.  It has awesome characters, campaign, guns, and dialogue.  If you can ignore the boring-ish multiplayer mode, you have one hell of a game.

Retails for: $59.99, recommended purchase price: $49.99
