E3 2012 – Day 1 Roundup
Another day, though a bit shorter than yesterday. I started the day at Nintendo for the Press Conference.
Nintendo Press Conference:
Pikmin 3
Miyamoto introduced Pikmin 3 to the world, coming for WiiU and looked fantastic in HD. It allowed for new Pikmin to be shown off, the Rock Pikmin who break down walls. The WiiU gamepad doubles a tactical overlay to help you play the game. You can use a gamepad or nunchuck tto control Pikmin.
New Super Mario Bros U
Not a very catchy title or a big surprise, but showed a lot of what made New Super Mario Bros Wii so good, the co-op. There is also a social integration with Mii friends. There was also a neat “Starry Night” inspired level.
Batman: Arkham City – Armored Edition
New armored suits for Batman and Catwoman, exclusive. No new content shown, but was fun seeing the WiiU accessing gadgets and other menu items you would have to pause for. A B.A.T. Mode makes for a way to activate a special ability.
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Not a whole lot was said, but showed a trailer of gameplay and being able to make up items to share with friends, multiplayer included.
Montage – Mass Effect 3, Trine 2: Director’s Cut, and Ninja Gaiden 3
A short montage announcing games and all looked good but lacked detail in what they provided.
Wii Fit U
More of the same, and made it so you can reuse the board you may already own.
Sing (working title)
Everyone has a role to play in this music game. First time I’ve seen the vertical use of the gamepad for lyrics, looks promising.
New Super Mario Bros 2
Coming for 3DS, is not New Super Mario Bros U, a separate game. Comes our August 19th.
Paper Mario Sticker Star
Trailer shown for the game, looks like games of the past but better.
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
Coming for Nintendo 3DS and will have a neat PAC-Man like multiplayer mode, where players work together to take down a ghost and revive others who faint.
LEGO City Undercover
Shown for Wii U, you solve crimes from gamepad and is very cute and fun. Even funnier with the lines of dialogue for the characters.
Ubisoft – Rayman Legends, Rabbid Land, ZombiU, Just Dance 4, and Assassin’s Creed III
Nothing new here, no new reveals except actual gameplay of ZombiU where you can use the screen on the gamepad to line up shots and fight off zombies. Assassin’s Creed III shown briefly, no real gameplay.
NintendoLand
Asymmetric gameplay. Basically a minigame collection featuring Nintendo characters
