E3 2012: Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012)

I only played the multiplayer of the game, and it feels a lot like Burnout Paradise’s online modes with the Activities. People meet up and you do jump challenges, speed traps, races, team races, and specific tasks. I’ll play or see the single player tomorrow to see what the story is. But the demos were all on PCs. The game is very urban, compared to Hot Pursuit’s vast and open backgrounds all outside of cities.

No matter what you do in the game you are earning SP, Speed Points. If you get to the Meet Up point first, you get points – get there last? Points. The Blacklist exists for multiplayer, but the Blacklist expands to multiplayer and your friends list with Autolog and are constantly getting updates.

So I sat in on a VIP multiplayer session of Most Wanted. They showed the map and the game is stylish as hell. Autolog is in 2.0 and much more detailed and looks even more addicting. It looks amazing and all demo stations were on PC, unfortunately capped at 30fps on all systems. “We don’t make sequels to other people’s games” says Criterion. That said, no story – no return of Razor Callahan. The game has pinache, don’t get me wrong as it will have some exciting events, but Criterion just doesn’t do narrative. I’ll likely play it, but this is just a naturalistic extension to 2010′s Hot Pursuit.
