HAWKEN gets Oculus Rift support

Oculus Rift is getting ready to close its Kickstarter campaign for dev kits, but we have one more announcement. Developers and fans backing the Oculus Kickstarter will be the first to experience the upcoming free-to-play first-person mech shooter HAWKEN in virtual reality. Meteor Entertainment and Oculus proudly announce that HAWKEN will be one of the first new games to launch with Oculus Rift virtual reality support. HAWKEN launches 12/12/12. HAWKEN will now join Doom 3 BFG as one of the first games that will be compatible with Oculus Rift.

HAWKEN virtual reality aims to deliver a fast paced immersive mech shooter. HAWKEN virtual reality will be a killer showcase of what developers can do with the Oculus SDK and Unreal Engine.

As you probably know, HAWKEN is a multiplayer free-to-play first-person mech shooter. Developed by Adhesive Games and published by Meteor Entertainment, players battle giant armored mechs amongst the ruined cities of a toxic planet. The new PC title is set to revolutionize digital game distribution as well as the mech genre, by delivering fast paced mech combat action and state-of-the-art visuals to hardcore players worldwide on the web through a free-to-play business model where players buy virtual goods rather than paying for the game up front.

Oculus Rift is a new virtual reality (VR) headset designed specifically for video games that will change the way you think about gaming forever. With an incredibly wide field of view, high resolution display, and ultra-low latency head tracking, the Rift provides a truly immersive experience that allows you to step inside your favorite game and explore new worlds like never before.  Oculus will be PAX Prime, Aug. 31 – Sept. 2, but it will not be showing off HAWKEN at the show. That will come at a later date.
