It’s a “New Dawn” as Evil Empire rolls out first content update for Blobfish’s Brotato on PC today

From Press Release:

Bordeaux, France (Oct. 27, 2025) – Evil Empire, the development team behind this year’s The Rogue Prince of Persia and Dead Cells’ multi-year spanning post-launch support of 25+ updates and DLCs, rolled out its first update for Blobfish Games’ Brotato today – live now on PC with mobile and console platforms to follow in approximately one month. The “New Dawn” update is the first new content update for Brotato since late 2024 and focuses on extensive quality of life changes – including an all-new ban system. Though, in true Evil Empire fashion, players will also find new items and a new weapon in there, too. (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1942280/Brotato/)

To mark the occasion, the Evil Empire developers released a video overview today that showcases a lot of the new updates in action, as well as explaining how to get them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7YzyFxOanQ

New Items

Leading the update are six new items which include Fresh Meat, Fruit Basket, Candy Bag, Ghost Outfit, Will – o’ – Wisp and Hourglass – all of which provide various benefits to players skillsets and strengths while they take on wave after wave of gross little aliens.

New Weapon

Also joining the fray is a new weapon fans can wield if they so choose, the Vorpal Sword, which alternates between thrusting and sweeping attacks and grants players the ability to one-shot an enemy for the first time.

Ban System

Additional extras in today’s update includes the Ban system, a much-requested community feature that will allow players to ban up to eight items during a run. Win a run in Danger 3 or more to unlock the Ban system. Note: the Ban system does not include weapons.

New Saves

The New Dawn update also introduces three new save slots which gives players the option to copy progress onto another profile (or reset the save). Unlocking every item, character, weapon and Danger level on a save will deactivate the earning of achievements, so use with caution as you will still have to earn them the hard way.

Codex

The Codex introduces a new wiki-esque feature to the game, with information about Items, Weapons and Enemies (e.g. – How many times you killed a specific alien, etc). Evil Empire plans to continue to build this feature out based on player feedback.

Oh and one more thing: Brotato is now supported on Mac and Linux, yay!

Brotato launched in 2023 and since then the top-down arena shooting roguelike has spawned more than 10 million+ players around the world across PC, console and mobile platforms. Already a robust title for solo or co-op players, Evil Empire has joined to lead the development of the title under the watchful, beady eyes of Blobfish, to keep baking Brotato, adding the ever-necessary topping of fire updates packed with new content and even more roguelike goodness.

Evil Empire is best known for bringing years of content to fans for the GOTY hit Dead Cells from Motion Twin, culminating in the Return to Castlevania DLC. The Evil Empire team, founded by ex-Motion Twin developers, was originally created for this specific type of game development work – to support and work with energized, enthusiastic communities of games to bring fresh and inspired content to the games we all love.

Evil Empire most recently developed The Rogue Prince of Persia which launched out of Early Access after a short 15 months to critical acclaim.
