From Press Release:
Valencia, Calif. – April 7, 2026 – The innovative, genre-breaking, sci-fi classic has returned! Independent video game studio WayForward, under license from Bandai Namco Entertainment America, is proud to announce that Sigma Star Saga DX, the enhanced version of the unique shoot-’em-up/RPG, is now available digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Featuring an epic interstellar story and more than 15,000 weapon combinations, the game is regularly priced at $19.99 and rated T by the ESRB; early adopters on Switch and Steam will receive a 10% launch discount through April 20. A new launch trailer highlighting the game’s features and action-packed gameplay can be seen at https://youtu.be/Si15KSwCxDw.
Created by Shantae series director Matt Bozon, Sigma Star Saga DX combines top-down adventuring and exploration with side-scrolling space-shooter battles and an RPG-style experience system. As Allied Earth Federation pilot Ian Recker, players will become intergalactic double agents on a mission to infiltrate and defeat the invading Krill empire. On foot, Recker will investigate six planets and power up with high-tech weapons and gear that let him reach new areas, but when enemies attack, the action switches to pulse-pounding spaceship combat where he can customize his vessel with more than 70 explosive Gun Data items. An unforgettable cast and challenging boss battles will keep players on the edge of their seats as the epic story unfolds.
While Sigma Star Saga DX retains the graphics, gameplay, and audio of the classic Game Boy Advance Sigma Star Saga (released by Namco in 2005), the game also includes a number of upgrades implemented by the original WayForward development team, such as an improved map, decreased random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, adjusted auto-fire, additional save points, assorted bug fixes, and more. The console/PC version, ported by Mighty Rabbit Studios using Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, offers several brand-new extra features as well, not the least of which is an all-new vocal theme song, “Jet Among the Stars,” performed by acclaimed musicians DemonDice and Megan McDuffee. Other bonus content includes a concept-art gallery, a music player, multiple border art options, a rewind function, and save states.
In addition to the digital version, physical versions for Switch and PlayStation 5 of Sigma Star Saga DX are available to preorder from limitedrungames.com through May 3 in both Standard and Classic Editions. The Standard Edition ($34.99) includes the game and manual, while the jam-packed Classic Edition ($69.99) includes the game, manual, CD soundtrack, double-sided poster (featuring new Sigma Star Saga DX art by WayForward illustrator Shaun Healey on one side and the classic cover art on the other), a keychain of Recker’s ship, and a gold-colored coin featuring the likenesses of heroines Psyme and Scarlet.
