Microprose, together with publisher Atari, Inc., announced today that “Special Forces: Team X” will go on sale for the exceptional price of $4.99 (£3.99/€4.99).

This temporary price drop will be available from May 6th starting at 10am PDT and will last for one week. At the end of the sale week, it will be available for just $9.99 (£7.99/€8.99).

Launched in February, Special Forces: Team X (STX) is a fast-paced tactical 3rd person cover based shooter with a twist. By throwing customization fully into players’ hands with its real time map selection system, the battlefield is divided into three distinct areas, with the layout of each determined by the teams in the pregame lobby. Over one hundred possible combinations give every match a unique look and feel, for a constant tactical challenge. The game also features 5 multiplayer modes that include new game types like Hot Zone and High Value Target and asymmetrical gameplay supporting 2, 3 or even 4 teams.

In a statement, Microprose said “Initially, the game launched with a bug that affected some players, and we deeply apologize to anyone that experienced issues. However, since then, multiple patches have been released on Steam to address the issue and also to subtly alter the play mechanics based on customer feedback, which we believe now delivers a faster paced and smoother experience. We are hoping that this price drop will bring players into the game that may have been interested.” A Title Update for the XBLA version is currently in the final stages of testing.

Since release, multiple Steam community groups have set up to support the game offering regular events, competitions and a ready roster of comrades to do battle with. These groups include SFTXEvents, Special-Forces-Team-X and SFTXPG.
