Neon-infused katana action game Tokyo Underground Killer now on Steam

From Press Release:

Osaka, Japan — September 5, 2025 — The neon-infused first-person katana slasher Tokyo Underground Killer is now available on Steam for $9.99/€9.49/£8.99, with a 10% launch discount for the first week. A free demo is also live, featuring a curated selection of tutorial missions, partial main story combat stages, and key narrative segments.

The full game boasts a meaty story mode consisting of 11 missions based on real locations in Tokyo, and a city hub with various shops and mini-games such as pachinko or UFO Catchers. Besides their trusty Katana, players can use 10 upgradable Blood Skills and a fleshed-out ability tree system to overcome the 10 boss battles and the countless Flatliner enemies patrolling each area. The game’s striking visual style, dramatic hand-drawn comics scenes, and a dynamic soundtrack allow players to fully immerse themselves when exploring the neon-lit streets of Shinjuku.

Developed by Phoenix Game Productions (Osaka, Japan) and published by 3DM Games and Gone Shootin, Tokyo Underground Killer is a high-speed, first-person cyberpunk action game. Set in a near-future Tokyo drenched in neon, the game tells a blood-soaked tale of survival and violence. Players step into the shoes of the “Shinjuku Vampire” hitman Kobayashi, navigating the city’s criminal underworld with their katana “Jubokko”, brutal Blood Skills powered by defeated enemies, and an array of unique weapons such as shuriken launchers or cursed Japanese dolls.

“Creating this game has been a labor of love and passion for many years,” said Daniel Hedjazi, Studio Head and Director at Phoenix Game Productions, in the press release. “We can’t wait for players to finally dive into our twisted vision of Tokyo, filled with brutal gang bosses, vengeful idols, and manipulative cult leaders. Kobayashi’s descent into the city’s underworld is not only a relentless fight for survival but also a journey of self-discovery, brimming with dark humor and unexpected twists. Coupled with an unforgettable soundtrack by legendary composer Andrew Hulshult, and nearly 100 pages of original comic panels illustrated by Hans Steinbach, we believe Tokyo Underground Killer delivers an unparalleled gaming experience.”
