Cold Fear is out now on GOG with a massive rework, new games join the GOG Preservation Program

From Press Release:

November 25th, 2025 – The stormy decks and creaking corridors of Cold Fear are back. This cult survival horror game makes its return to PC, better than ever – newly restored and improved, fully DRM-free and ready for modern systems!

Some games deserve a second chance; and we couldn’t be more proud to contribute to it. This new version ensures that players can finally experience it as intended: preserved, stable, and updated with a host of technical improvements and quality-of-life upgrades. It is, of course, launching as a part of our GOG Preservation Program. And that’s not all – alongside Cold Fear, I Am Alive is also joining GOG in a newly fixed and updated version.

The new GOG release of Cold Fear isn’t just a reappearance on a storefront – it’s a quality re-release with extensive under-the-hood work. The game has been brought up to modern standards with full support for Windows 10 and 11, native widescreen, resolutions up to 4K with high refresh rates, and reliable performance on both dedicated and integrated graphics. All seven language options – English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Polish – are included, restoring some localizations previously unavailable on PC.

This new release also modernizes how Cold Fear feels to play, with robust controller support for popular pads, unified button layouts, and full support for wireless play, hotplugging, D-Pads, triggers, and vibration, all based on an updated scheme inspired by the original PlayStation 2 controls.

Multiple long-standing issues have been addressed to make Cold Fear properly playable again: crashes, visual glitches, and broken options have all been resolved; even the title screen music and window responsiveness during video playback have been repaired, resulting in a smoother, more stable experience from launch to credits. . Originally published by Ubisoft and now re-released by Atari with our very own restoration efforts, Cold Fear represents the kind of behind-the-scenes cooperation that helps ensure cult titles don’t quietly fade away when technology moves on. If a game is part of our shared gaming heritage, it deserves more than to be left broken on modern hardware.

But that’s not the end of the good news! Alongside Cold Fear and I Am Alive, multiple gaming icons are joining the GOG Preservation Program today. Check out the line-up:
