Osaka, Japan March 5th 2026 – Today is the unveiling of Hotel Barcelona Under New Management, a significant gameplay update for Hotel Barcelona.
This is not a routine patch. This is a structural refinement of the player experience.This update arrives alongside five free crossover skins for all players and follows a wave of international award recognition that has pushed the game firmly into the global spotlight.
Movement is faster. Combat recovery is shorter. Parries now matter. Dodges create space. Enemies react longer. Multiplayer is fairer. The opening experience is clearer. The entire game runs better.

Combat, Flow, and Player Control
- Faster recovery from attacks with expanded cancel timing into jump, dodge, guard, and follow up attacks
- Reduced stamina friction and shortened attack animations for a more aggressive combat rhythm
- Increased base dodge distance and rebalanced dodge skills
- Fully reworked parry system. Precise guard timing now triggers parries and rewards HP Recovery Orbs
- Guard now consumes stamina, creating meaningful defensive decisions
- Multiple new parry skills added to the skill tree. Skill layout and progression reworked
- New skill “Enhancement Luck+” added
- Weapon balance adjustments including Flamethrower AP tuning
Enemy and Stage Rebalancing
- Enemy HP, attack ranges, and reaction timing adjusted across multiple types
- Phantom Lost removed from Normal difficulty and below
- Boss durability and behaviour adjustments for Jacob, Nigel, and Eve
- Terrain, camera distance, and door placement improvements in key stages
Invasion Multiplayer Improvements
- Reduced imbalance caused by player progression differences
- Improved parry reactions between players
- Doppelgängers can no longer invade during boss fights
- Doppelgängers no longer interfere with enemies or environmental systems
- Matchmaking and multiplayer UI improvements

- Promise Mascot Agency Michi – A companion mascot skin that heightens the absurdity of the setting

Hotel Barcelona’s creative identity and execution have been recognised widely across international awards circuits.
The game secured nine victories at the 2025 NYX Game Awards, including three Grand Winner titles and six Gold Awards, spanning categories such as Indie Innovation, Character Design, Music, Brand Identity, and Key Art.
It is currently nominated at the NAVGTR Awards for Original Score, New IP, and Performance, with results announced March 11. It stands as a finalist in the SAGA Awards public vote for Game of the Year in Catalan. It is nominated in PlayStation Partner Awards Japan Asia for PlayStation Indies Users’ Choice, and for Excellence in Sound Design at BitSummit.

Hotel Barcelona is a 2.5D action horror roguelite set inside a shifting hotel inspired by slasher cinema, serial killer mythology, and surreal dream logic. Players control Justine, a federal marshal whose mind is partially possessed by the spirit of a killer known as Dr Carnival. The result is a constant tension between control and chaos as you fight through themed floors filled with traps, killers, and escalating threats.
Each failed run leaves behind a playable echo called a Slasher Phantom, a ghost of your previous attempt that fights alongside you in future runs. The game blends tight melee combat, loop based progression, and a distinctive Invasion Multiplayer mode where other players can enter your run as hostile Doppelgängers.
It is violent. Strange. Stylish. Mechanically unusual. Instantly recognisable as the work of its creators.

Hidetaka Suehiro, SWERY, founder of White Owls Inc., directs and writes Hotel Barcelona. Known for Deadly Premonition and his unique approach to horror storytelling, SWERY’s work is defined by surreal tone, memorable characters, and unconventional structure.
Goichi Suda, SUDA51, founder of Grasshopper Manufacture, is known globally for titles such as No More Heroes and Killer7. His creative signature is bold style, genre fusion, and striking visual identity. That influence is clearly visible in Hotel Barcelona’s attitude and presentation.
