New gameplay trailer released for upcoming sci-fi driving adventure DETOUR

From Press Release:

June 2, 2026. Zaragoza, Spain. – Spanish independent developer A La Fresca Studio has unveiled their new gameplay trailer for DETOUR, a single-player driving adventure set within a mysterious sci-fi landscape, blending resource management, physics-based traversal, and open-ended exploration. The game is currently in development for PC.

Description

A sci-fi driving adventure blending physics-based exploration and resource management

DETOUR takes place in a world where humanity survives underground under the rule of The Machine. This entity provides everything people need. On the surface, workers and drivers have the task of maintaining the vast infrastructure that keeps the system running.

As a driver, you repair parts of The Machine, transport materials and explore desolate rural landscapes. Along the way, you encounter isolated communities surviving on the surface. Beneath the silence, whispers spread about hidden truths, unseen dangers, and the consequences of wandering too far from The Machine’s reach.

Scattered across the world, resources can be gathered and used to expand your truck’s capabilities. Your vehicle becomes an essential tool for traversal, capable of clearing obstacles, retrieving cargo, and overcoming environmental puzzles. Every upgrade affects both the truck’s capabilities and how it looks throughout the journey.

As players venture further beyond The Machine’s reach, they must decide whether to keep working for the system that keeps humanity alive underground… or risk everything for a life beyond its control.

Main Elements

  • Tactile gameplay – Every interaction is grounded in the physical world in a tactile way. Players interact with the environment through the truck and its tools. Resource management is diegetic, carrying materials physically in the truck bed, thus making cargo management part of the journey. Terrain and biomes affect how the vehicle handles, so each journey feels reactive and hands-on.
  • The Machine is always watching – The Machine quietly shapes the world around the player, controlling what can be seen, accessed, or understood. Players who stray too far from its control may begin to uncover hidden truths and discover why some roads are safer left unexplored.
  • Narrative-Driven Exploration – Most of humanity may survive underground, but not everyone remains under The Machine’s control. Across the surface, players will encounter cultists, rebels, and isolated communities struggling over resources, survival, and freedom. Players can choose whether to support them or remain loyal to the system.

About A La Fresca Studio

A La Fresca Studio is an independent game studio based in Zaragoza, Spain. Founded by experienced developers, the team brings a wide range of expertise to every project. Our backgrounds span critically acclaimed indie titles and major international franchises, including Ball X Pit and Star Trek. A La Fresca Studio focuses on creating thoughtful, well-crafted games shaped by strong creative direction and close collaboration.

In Spain, especially during summer or in small towns, people often gather “a la fresca”. It literally means to “get some fresh air”, bringing chairs outdoors and spending the evening with neighbors, family and friends once the heat begins to fade. It is not a party, just a simple social tradition built around conversation, shared stories, food, drinks, and time together.

That is the spirit at the heart of our studio: a cohesive team creating games with shared passion and the same open and creative atmosphere that defines those evenings spent “a la fresca”.
