September 3, 2026– Hooded Horse and Minakata Dynamics are excited to reveal the next major update for their popular cat-and-mouse city-building game Whiskerwood. As well as continuing the Good™ and Just™ work of paying taxes to the crown, players can now construct their own ships and explore the ocean around them, finding new trade partners, resources, and quests!
The Nautical Update is all about taking the action to the high seas. After encountering a malcontent whisker in a converted lifeboat, players can embark on a new questline that will enable bigger and better ships, facilitating enhanced logistics around the player city, as well as exploring the new world map!
All ships require a crew of whiskers, as well as enough supplies needed to carry out the task they are assigned, lest they starve out at sea. Ships are assigned to new dock buildings, which will determine their role, from exploring the ocean to ferrying goods around the city, making lucrative trades with remote NPC outposts, or going on combat missions. Thereʼs plenty of dangers waiting out on the high sea, and players will need to assign enough escorts to guard their own vessels, as well as assemble mighty flotillas to strike pirate strongholds!
The world map is divided into grids that can be explored, and players can uncover pirate bases, other whisker colonies that can be traded with, as well as new resources that can be used back home. Infinite Fertilizer, anyone? Then find some Guano!
This update marks the next chapter in the gameʼs early access journey.
Whiskerwood is out in early access for PC via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store for $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 / ¥2,980. A 50% discount is running for the next two weeks.
