v=sgReLTbcFxY Since launching in Early Access in February, Question has continued to expand and refine The Killing Stone with new optional story content, gameplay balancing, quality-of-life improvements, and updates informed by player feedback. These include additional questlines, adjustments to card decks and combat encounters, and improvements to the game’s bargaining and reward systems. With 1.0, players can access the fourth and final chapter, The Reckoning, bringing together the decks they’ve crafted throughout the first three chapters to take part in climactic rituals that determine the fate of the Svangard clan.
The Killing Stone is a duel of diabolical wit and strategy – which invites you to Beat the Devil at his own game. Your mission: travel to the Arctic Circle in order to save a cursed family from the clutches of demons. It features a first-person perspective, enchanted game board figurines which come to life with dazzling effects, and haunting audio.
Featuring the bewitching vocal talents of Emma Gregory (Baldur’s Gate 3) and Liam O’Brien (Critical Role), the entire story, including their voiced dialogue, can be played in authentic 17th-century English or a more contemporary style.
“Our intrepid Early Access community asked for more devious, specific cards to support their personal strategies to beat the Devil. They also requested a more intricate narrative, more voice acting from Emma Gregory and Liam O’Brien, and optional story choices which alter the endings for our cursed little family. For the past several months, we have worked to make their dark wishes come true,” said Question’s co-owner and narrative director Jordan Thomas. “We’re deeply grateful to them for helping shape The Killing Stone into the engrossing, tempting — and unique experience it is today.”
Key Features
- A Living, Tactile Card Battler. A ceremonial game board centered around the Fanghella, a.k.a. the Killing Stone, featuring a collection of magical creature figurines, spells, and incantations that allow for a variety of clever tactics.
- Unique Reserve and Demonic Bargaining Systems. A novel, strategic Reserve mechanic lets players stack units and buff incantations above the battle line for later deployment. Creature placement, spellcasting, and bargaining add powerful banes and boons to your deck affecting your chances of success.
- Occult Horror Narrative with Meaningful Choices. Play as the Maven, a master of the dark arts – as you engage family members and animal familiars in search of clues to the haunting truth behind Mariken Svangård’s death. Choices at key moments alter the ending for each character.
- Master Infernal Contract Law. To save the family, you must win their souls through Ritual combat against Hell’s most cunning demon lords. Every contract is a cut-throat Faustian bargain, signed in blood. Forge, swap, negotiate, and battle through a series of rituals, the outcome of which are permanent banes (or boons) carried to your final reckoning.
- Dual-Language Storytelling with Acclaimed Voice Talent. Play the full story in either authentic 17th Century English or modern prose, with customizable text and voiceover options for either version. Featuring voice performances by Emma Gregory (Baldur’s Gate 3) and Liam O’Brien (Critical Role).
