March 23rd, 2026 — Award-winning developer Misfits Attic (Duskers and A Virus Named TOM) are thrilled to announce v1.0 of their IGF-honored chess-inspired dungeon crawler Below the Crown will launch April 21st on Steam. Play the freshly released Beta today, and/or grab the game now in Early Access as part of the Humble Indie Chess Bundle!
In Below the Crown, players explore procedurally-generated dungeons using chess-themed pieces paired with powerful spells, upgrades, and the occasional psychological test. Optional assists ensure that even chess-averse players feel emboldened to take on the depths.
Enter the depths with the new Queen Wizard and finally face the Emperor himself in the final boss battle when the game moves to 1.0 on April 21st.
