There’s little time to waste when you’re trying to survive in Histera, where the Glitch can change the playing field in the heat of battle. You’ll recognize the signs of an incoming Glitch when the air around you pulses across the battlefield. Your surroundings will start to destabilize and you’ll have to reconsider your position and that of the enemy — the cover your target is hiding behind might fall away, giving you the perfect opportunity to take them out. Still, there’s no time to linger and you’ll have but a few more moments to switch up your strategy: will you push on or fall back?

You’ll find yourself scouring through the prehistoric Pliocene Plateau, war-ridden mid-20th century Novgorod or the futuristic Montorro City. Due to the Glitch, sections of these maps will shift and merge with little warning, keeping you on your toes until the very end.

When you head into battle, you’ll have a variety of weapons from all Eras at your disposal to equip yourself with. From military-grade knives that can be used in close-quarters to prehistoric bow and arrow or modern automatic weapons — each offering their own advantages and way of handling.

A number of pick-ups are spread out across the map that can give you a timely edge on the battlefield by refilling your ammo supply or restoring some of your health points, for instance. However, players who take the risk to venture into the heart of the Glitch are rewarded with much more powerful pick-ups that they can find there. These can double your damage output, grant you infinite ammo, regenerate or expand your health points, accelerate your movement speed or allow you to steal the health of an enemy target. Getting a hold of one of these just might turn the tide in your favor!
Histera was first available to play during the Steam Next Fest in October 2023. The game will launch in Early Access in 2024.
