NICOSIA, Cyprus – July 31, 2024 – Publisher Critical Reflex and developer Johnbell are thrilled to announce “Phoenix Rising,” a massive update to the deck-building tower defense game ORX! This new update introduces branching events and added choices, rock-paper-scissors-like archetypes, a global adventure map, and redesigned visuals for cards and UI. Available on Steam now, the “Phoenix Rising” update also features a slew of other improvements that elevate the game’s dark fantasy world.
What is ORX?
First released in August 2022, ORX is a unique blend of tower defense and deck-building mechanics set in a dark fantasy world. Players expand their castles, grow their domains, and defend against hordes of attackers using over 300 cards and powerful artifacts.
The ORX “Phoenix Rising” update includes:
- Launching the Global Map – Replacing the cramped act window, transitions between acts now happen on the same grandiose, scenic Global Map.
- Introducing Branching Events – An updated event structure now features a branching narrative, multiple choices, and ambushes.
- Implementing Combatant Archetypes – Every combatant (both player and ORX) will now follow into one of three archetypes, which interact similarly to “rock-paper-scissors” rules.
- New UI and Card Designs – All cards have been redesigned, alongside numerous screens and interfaces.
- Even More Changes – New and improved features at every turn with updated economy and restoration mechanics, village overtake and patrolling ORX, new castle building variables, neutral villages, new elite ORX types, constant ORX flow, and more.
And there’s even more to come! The ORX team is dedicated to continuing to improve and evolve the game with community feedback. There are even more major updates planned for the future, including further refinements to the core gameplay experience, as well as a variety of new content, including an additional faction.
