Death of the Reprobate, a classic adventure game wrapped up in a Renaissance theme and Monty Pythonesque humor is out November 7th

From Press Release:

DATE – Following the success of its two predecessors, Death of the Reprobate will be launching on Steam on November 7th. It is due to be the third and final installment of the hilariously absurd Immortal John Triptych game series. Solo developer Joe Richardson has teased a similar fusion of the distinct Renaissance art style and Monty Pythonesque humour that delighted fans in both Four Last Things and The Procession to Calvary. This final addition to the series promises a plethora of dastardly puzzles, classic point-and-click adventuring, and, of course, high levels of nonsensical buffoonery.

Though the story itself stands independently of the other two games in the trilogy, Death of the Reprobate continues the story of Immortal John himself. However, in stark defiance of his name, Immortal John is dying. His heir, ‘Malcolm the Shit’, graciously takes a break from ordering cruel and unusual executions to visit the dying man and seek his inheritance – I mean, fulfill his final wishes. Unfortunately for Malcolm, the promised title and riches will only be awarded if he completes seven good deeds before sundown. Guided by the Lord God Almighty (quite literally – if you’re stuck, He’s the one holding a big arrow), the player must set forth into a surreal world of real Renaissance paintings and help a host of preposterous characters in order to earn Malcolm his inheritance.

Richardson’s signature art style makes Death of the Reprobate instantly recognisable, featuring classical artwork from the likes of Brueghel and Millais, delightfully juxtaposed with dark and often crude humour. In-keeping with the historic style, the third game in the series will boast period-appropriate music by Eduardo Antonello – all recorded using contemporary instruments of the time. The blend of highbrow subject matter and lowbrow comedy make for a uniquely enjoyable experience for both old and new fans of the Immortal John series.

Those who still reminisce about the golden era of LucasArts iconic point-and-click adventure games, from The Secret of Monkey Island to Day of the Tentacle, are sure to enjoy the eye-rolling jokes, classic interaction menu and brilliantly bizarre world of Immortal John. This standout take on the much-loved genre has already proven popular, with Polygon describing its predecessor The Procession to Calvary as ‘a smart and funny tableau of Monty Python-style jokes’.

When asked for comment, Joe Richardson said: “I burnt myself the fuck out six months ago but the game wasn’t done so I kept going and now I feel genuinely unwell lol I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!”

Death of the Reprobate will be available on Steam on November 7th.
