From Press Release:
February 2nd, 2026 – Game preservation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people care – about games, their history, and their future.
Over the past two years, that shared belief has turned into real preservation work at GOG. What started as a community-driven idea has grown into tangible results: more classic games returning, more titles being fixed for modern systems, and more conversations across the industry about why preservation matters.
In 2025 alone, 312 games joined the GOG catalog through the GOG Dreamlist. Our community cast over 13 million votes, shared over 57 thousand stories, and saw 243 thousand votes fulfilled. Dreamlist continues to show that community voices don’t just get heard – they help decide what gets preserved and released.
Across 2024 and 2025, the GOG Preservation Program welcomed 267 games, delivering 1461 preservation improvements — including compatibility fixes, restored content, stability upgrades, and quality-of-life improvements.
Some titles joined GOG and entered the Preservation Program immediately — such as Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Breath of Fire IV, Resident Evil HD Remaster, Devil May Cry HD Collection, Cold Fear, and the Total War collections. Several of these games had been unavailable for years before being brought back and preserved for modern PCs.
In 2025, game preservation became a more visible topic across the industry — and we made sure to be part of that conversation. GOG took part in major talks and panels, joined EFGAMP and was elected to its board, received the Checkpoint Award 2025 for preservation activities, and secured a dedicated game preservation panel at GDC 2026.
Preserving games requires technical work, legal effort, historical research, and long-term commitment. It’s something that happens step by step, game by game; with the support of a community that believes games should remain playable, owned, and accessible.
For those who want to support this work even more directly, GOG Patrons exist as one of the ways to help sustain and grow preservation efforts going forward. And for everyone who supports us by voting, sharing stories, and choosing DRM-free games on GOG — we’re deeply grateful.
To celebrate what we’ve achieved together, we’re giving away Alone in the Dark: The Trilogy 1+2+3 — a cornerstone of survival horror history. The giveaway ends on February 5th, 2PM UTC.
Game preservation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because people care — and choose to support it.
