From Press Release:
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Oct. 5, 2026 – The hungry hordes are back for more! Saber Interactive has launched the new “Waves of Lead” Update for World War Z, the ultimate co-op zombie action game. Free for all players on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, today’s update turns up the heat against the relentless undead with a variety of new content. There’s also new premium weapon skin DLC – the “Valhalla Raider” Weapon Skin Pack – for the most dedicated warriors.
Waves of Lead delivers a range of new content for players to discover today. Kit yourself out with a set of five new mutators, six new heavy weapon perks, three unlockable custom frames, and the new double-barreled Bullpup Shotgun and Gas Pipe Wrench melee weapon. The update also brings the extreme difficulty of Extinction Mode to the World War Z x The Walking Dead crossover DLC episode. DLC owners can now put their survival skills to the ultimate test against The Walking Dead‘s iconic slow-moving Walkers in locations like the Prison, the Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital! Today’s update adds six new perks, one for each heavy weapon, that can be unlocked and used in combat:
- Last Exhaust: When your SchreiTech Forest Warrior chainsaw’s fuel runs out, gain a camouflage effect for three seconds.
- Pillbox: You cannot be grabbed while aiming with the MAG5 machinegun.
- Cluster Bombs: Replace grenades with cluster bombs for the Hailstorm MGL. The blast radius of each cluster bomb is reduced by 50%, and when they explode, they scatter small explosive charges that detonate one second after the main blast.
- Dragon Breath Shells: The Taiga-12 heavy assault shotgun will fire incendiary rounds, but ammo capacity is reduced by 30%.
- Two-layer Bullet: Bullets for the BF25 payload rifle pierce through the first Zeke, and continue their trajectory, exploding after striking the next target. Total ammo capacity drops by 30%.
- White Phosphorus: MRL202 Commando rocket launchers are loaded with white phosphorus, affecting a large area and setting all enemies within radius on fire – all without leaving a burning puddle!
The Waves of Lead update also introduces five new mutators:
- Paranoid’s Reserves: Available as a permanent mutator, equipment crates may be booby-trapped
- All-In: The maximum health of all survivors and zombies becomes equal to one, and the overall time to return to combat is cut in half. Survivors can be incapacitated for an unlimited number of times, and getting back on their feet is faster!
- Let Them Dance: Zekes take increased damage from any shot to the legs and reduced damage from hits to the rest of the body
- Sharp Shards: Explosions from devices and heavy weapons will cause bleeding
- Leaky Backpack: You slowly lose ammo when grabbed!
Also out today is the new Valhalla Raider Weapon Skin Pack, available for $4.99. Amp your loadout with a collection of runic steel looks for the Geist 17 machine pistol, ARK-103 assault rifle, BSG-12 bullpup shotgun, Paladin LMG light automatic rifle, and Taiga-12 heavy assault shotgun.
