Ara: History Untold Review

Oct 09, 2024

Ara: History Untold from Oxide Games is an interesting experiment, with room to improve, and I hope it does. It’s a 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) strategy game that attempts to rewrite the genre with a unique blend of familiar mechanics and ambitious innovations. While Ara boasts a beautiful presentation and some truly inspired ideas, its execution stumbles with an overcomplicated crafting system and a lack of depth in certain areas, though the redemption arc for this will be fun to watch. As it stands today, Ara: History Untold is a demanding 4X game that can’t keep up with its own exigency.

Parcel Corps Review

Oct 08, 2024

Remember the rush of chaining tricks in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater or the frantic thrill of navigating a chaotic city just-in-time in Crazy Taxi? Billy Goat Entertainment’s new bike messenger delivery game Parcel Corps, throws those beloved elements into a blender, adds a generous dash of wacky humor, and pours out a refreshingly nostalgic concoction. Strap on your helmet, grip the handlebars, and prepare to weave through bustling city on your trusty bike, all while dodging pedestrians, and the ever-present pressure of a ticking clock to deliver packages for a cast of truly bizarre characters. Parcel Corps is a lighthearted delivery-focused game with a modicum of repetition, but the things that happen in-between delivery points is where you’ll have the most fun.

Frostpunk 2 Review

Oct 07, 2024

The icy grip tightens again, this time not with a brutal constriction, but with a masterful evolution. Frostpunk 2 is the highly anticipated sequel from 11 bit studios that throws out the blueprints and rewrites the rules of survival. You’ll spend hours braving the elements, managing resources, and leading people on a desperate odyssey of survival. Frostpunk 2 is a breathtaking experience that surpasses its predecessor in nearly every way, giving you chilling choices to make and never any time to thaw out.

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Review

Oct 04, 2024

Nearly a year and a half since the release of Diablo IV, the first expansion Vessel of Hatred has finally arrived. It is more than just a new campaign centered around Mephisto, it brings with it the “2.0 Patch” that revamps the core game, changes difficulties, and starts a new season. This is a beefy expansion that has something for everyone, and a stronger emphasis for playing groups with the new co-op modes with The Dark Citadel and the Kurast Undercity. Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred continues the compelling story, adds a new class, a new region, and expands on the endgame wonderfully that’s not to be missed.

Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (Gen 3) Review

Oct 03, 2024

Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (Gen 3) is simply great. It’s forward thinking in terms of its “multi-platform” approach to offer a seamless experience across multiple systems with its dual dongles. It’s also has fantastic audio quality and customization. The redesign of this headset looks and feels refreshing as a result. Turtle Beach has been building up to the what the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 (Gen 3) is, and that’s offering something premium in build and quality that truly delivers.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Review

Oct 02, 2024

To be honest, I didn’t “get” Dead Rising when I originally played it on the Xbox 360. It wasn’t until Dead Rising 2 released where things clicked for me, and I ultimately ended up revisiting the first game to finally finish it. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is a healthy dose of nostalgia mixed with lots of new additions like new voicework for survivors, auto-saves to smooth over progression, and a modern control scheme to be more than just a face lift. While remastering Dead Rising wasn’t the most necessary, it has been 18 years since the original release and Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is now a modern classic, made timeless.

Steam Deck (OLED) Review

Oct 01, 2024

The Steam Deck dominates most conversations about PC gaming. What used to be “But can it run Crysis?” is now “Does it play on the Deck?” Valve’s handheld PC is a powerhouse that utilizes your Steam library anywhere but your desk. Nearly a year after the OLED model has been released, and it’s just as impressive as ever. Having spent the past month with it, I’m confident this is the future of PC gaming. This isn’t just a hardware revision; it’s a refinement that elevates the entire Steam Deck experience.

CarX Street (PC) Review

Sep 30, 2024

CarX Technologies brings their mobile game to PC, complete with an all-new experience for the platform that roars onto the scene with undeniable ambition. CarX Street throws players into a sprawling metropolis filled with neon lights, winding roads, and an unbelievable amount of car customization. Beneath the initial flash, CarX Street struggles with a repetitive grind, a boring open-world, and lack of licensing – thankfully update by update, some of this is changing for the better.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Review

Sep 27, 2024

While it’s extremely unusual for a fighting game, but I have a deep love for the lore and story modes of the Mortal Kombat games. From the very beginning when you’d finish a tower with a single character, I was invested in knowing how things played out for them. In recent generations, the storytelling has been such a core component of these games where lore is either expanded, explored, or completely reworked. The story expansion named Khaos Reigns for Mortal Kombat 1 is “Part 2” of the story, picking up from where the end credits left off. Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns doesn’t quite do enough to justify its own existence both in story and new things to do when that story is done.

Golden Lap Review

Sep 26, 2024

Funselektor teams up with Strelka Games with Golden Lap, a gorgeous and deep simulation of open-wheeled racing. All too often, games ask you to take control of a vehicle and drive it to victory. Here, you’re tasked with maintaining the financials and logistics of running a team, and seeing whether that leads to success or failure. While failure may be prevalent with your time here, it’s a relaxing yet demanding time. This genre, especially among the motorsport enthusiasts is not new, but how capricious any given race or team can be is where Golden Lap exceeds its contemporaries.

The Plucky Squire Review

Sep 25, 2024

The Plucky Squire reminds me of a childhood filled with imagination, and then that has it all come to life. All Possible Futures have crafted a game that is as colorful as it is wonderful. There are few bugs and sequence breaking events that required restarting chapters, but all-in-all, is a highly enjoyable adventure for all ages. The Plucky Squire offers a great blend of 2D and 3D with puzzles and action, where words are power.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn Review

Sep 24, 2024

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn is a glorious remake of the classic 1990 NES game. It’s a testament to the enduring power of timeless gameplay and the artistry of pixel art. This remake not only captures the essence of the original but also introduces modern enhancements that elevate the experience. Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn is a making it a must-own for both fans of the series and newcomers to the world of ninja action.
