Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Ships on March 26th, 2013

Nov 01, 2012

Grab a friend, cross the border and take the war on drugs head on when Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts studio, launches Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel in North America on March 26, 2013 (29 March 2013 in Europe). Powered by the award-winning Frostbite 2 engine from DICE, Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel features intense co-operative gameplay where teamwork is needed for success and survival against a relentless Cartel lord. To help equip players for this intense operation, Visceral Games is rewarding fans who pre-order the game with the exclusive Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel Overkill Edition, which includes three bonus Contracts!

“With Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel we wanted to take the series in a new direction while also leveraging the aspects that made the first two Army of TWO games unique,” said Julian Beak, Executive Producer, Visceral Games. “We knew coming out of the gate that meaningful co-op gameplay, customization and over-the-top action would be key pillars for us, and we’re bringing these elements to the next level by presenting them in a setting that is more serious in order to dial up the intensity.”

Surviving  against a dangerous enemy with everything to lose is a daunting task, so Visceral Games is giving fans who pre-order the Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel Overkill Edition the advantage of additional guns and outfits, right when they start the game. The Overkill Edition includes:

  • Early Access to Three “Overkillers” Contracts: Unleash massive destruction with three Contract variations designed for maximum rampage! Players must kill enemies and cause environment destruction to earn enough points to continuously stay in Overkill while making their way to the extraction point.
  • Tactical Co-op Gear: Lay down sustained cover fire with the TAH-9 side arm while decked out in the polymer textured outfit and mask or wield the Double D automatic shotgun while battling in the intimidating Overkill mask and outfit.
  • Celebrate the Day of the Dead: Bust out the Day of the Dead themed assault rifle and take on Mexico’s most ruthless drug lords in Day of the Dead themed outfit and masks designed by popular tattoo artists.

[box_light]Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel re-sets the series that pioneered the co-op experience, balancing the over-the-top blockbuster action the franchise is known for with a narrative tone that is more intense and mature. Players will find themselves on the deadly streets of Mexico as Alpha and Bravo, two operatives working for a Private Military Contract outfit called Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O.). The pair will come face-to-face with a violent, bloodthirsty drug lord and must fight to protect an unwavering political figure determined to take him down. With the ability to unleash Overkill and harness the power of ultimate destruction, players will work together as their objectives unravel, allegiances begin to blur and their lives hang in the balance.[/box_light]

SMITE Gets New Arena Game Mode

Nov 01, 2012

Hi-Rez Studios, independent developer of AAA free-to-play online games, today announced that the action MOBA game SMITE will get an additional game mode with the next patch.

The new mode, called Arena, is a very action-oriented, team death match and takes place on a brand new map with a Colosseum setting.

Arena is played 5 versus 5 with minions and side-objectives including buff camps and Gryphon Guardians. But rather than a single end objective, in Arena your team earns points for killing enemy players and minions with the first team to deduct 500 points from their opponents being crowned the winner.

“SMITE is all about action combat,” says Hi-Rez Studios Chief Operating Officer Todd Harris. “So we wanted an additional game type that allows players to get into the action even faster. One of our level designers took the initiative to put together this more open Colosseum map concept on his own time. We’ve enjoyed playing it so much that the team has worked overtime to get the new mode quickly into the hands of our Beta community and we look forward to their feedback”

The online game SMITE began Beta testing in June, 2012 and has surpassed 750,000 player accounts created to date.

Within SMITE, players choose from a selection of gods, join session based 5 versus 5 arena combat, and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions.  SMITE is free-to-play and is a digital download for the PC.  Players interested in joining the SMITE Beta can register at http://www.smitegame.com

The fine folks at Larian, however, took the occasion of this fine Halloween day to pull together a super-quick (seriously, like 50 seconds) gameplay video that shows one particularly topical example of item interaction/combination in the game. You’ll also see what looks like a really nice work-in-progress level/area from the game!

Forza Horizon – SmartGlass Experience Available Now

Oct 30, 2012

Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios today announced the release of the official “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience, a free download for Windows 8 PCs that allows players to extend their racing fun in this year’s biggest racing game, “Forza Horizon.”

The “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience works as an interactive map of Colorado–the vast open-world environment where fans will drive, explore, and race against other players. Using the “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience, “Forza Horizon” players can instantly access the entire map of Colorado. Using familiar navigation gestures like pinch to zoom, players can explore the interactive map and set waypoints on the map simply by tapping the desired location on the screen. Once a destination is chosen, that waypoint is automatically set in the game and new route directions are presented to the player.

The interactive SmartGlass Experience for “Forza Horizon” lets players explore the open roads of Colorado with ease. In addition, as with the in-game map, the “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience includes locations of special items such as smashable upgrade discount signs, new race events, and more. Through a robust set of filters, players will be able to quickly find exactly the event or item they are looking for with just a few swipes of their fingers.

With no need to pause the game in order to access the in-game map, the “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience offers new players a chance to familiarize themselves with the open world of Colorado, and offers experienced drivers an edge over the competition.

The “Forza Horizon” SmartGlass Experience is available now for Windows 8 PCs, with support for additional platforms coming soon.
