A sequel to Volgarr the Viking from eleven years ago was not on my bingo card for 2024. This game does not mess around, playing as Volgar the Viking made me Scott the Vulgar. Volgarr the Viking II is everything about the first game’s difficulty is very much in-tact. That said, Volgarr the Viking II is a return to form, and everything you’d want from a sequel, to include optional accessibility options so that you can actually beat this one.
It’s been a whopping eight years since the original SteamWorld Heist. The world has changed so much in that time, new consoles have released, new genres have emerged. The sequel is a breath of fresh sea air, and is a return to form as if no time has passed. SteamWorld Heist II is the very definition of sequel, improving and expanding on things to enhance over the previous in fantastic ways. This is a follow-up I never expected, but definitely wanted and SteamWorld Heist II delivers.
Long before Helldivers II there was Earth Defense Force. Now in its sixth mainline game, EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is, without a doubt, more of the same of its mission-based cuisine. This latest entry in the over-the-top, bug-splattering franchise delivers everything you’d expect and more. It’s a relentless, chaotic, and undeniably fun experience that will keep you coming back for more, even if it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. And for fans of the series, that’s an exceptionally good thing. EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is gigantic alien killing at its absolute finest.
CLICKOLDING exists in a perverse, erotic, and absolutely compelling space. From the moment the game begins to the moment it ends, you’re enthralled with what’s transpiring. CLICKOLDING comes from Strange Scaffold with funding from Outersloth. This game has adult themes and sexual-adjacent material. Even the kerning of the game’s title font suggests something seedy is going on. Strange Scaffold does storytelling like no one else, and this is an uncomfortable one to play; but that’s the point, and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
In what should have been an easy victory, Hot Lap Racing doesn’t manage to earn its nearly forty dollar price tag. Hot Lap Racing certainly features more than hot laps, in fact it has an in-depth career, many single player modes, as well as a multiplayer mode. However, during my time with this game, I waffled between loving and hating this game. This largely has to do with the game’s AI also waffling, but rather between aggressive and incompetent. There’s some neat ideas that don’t come together like they should in a package that should really only exist on Switch, because on PC it is outclassed by so many other games in the space.
It’s weird to think that I’ve been playing this game for a couple of years now. From its early prototypes to even a more recent demo before getting my hands on the review build. It’s a game I’m so familiar and comfortable with that playing through this again felt like second nature by the end of it. Free Lives doesn’t make the same type of game more than once, and Anger Foot does not disappoint. Anger Foot is a ridiculous premise with a pitch perfect execution that’ll grab a foothold on you.
El Presidente sets sail in Tropico 6 – Tropican Shores, the latest DLC for the quirky city-builder. This expansion dives headfirst into the ocean, introducing aquatic opportunities and a luxurious lifestyle for your island nation. While Tropican Shores adds some delightful new mechanics and a healthy dose of Caribbean charm, it fails to deliver a substantial wave of content for the asking price.
By name alone, you might be thinking this is once again my review of the VelocityOne Flightstick, but satisfyingly, the VelocityOne Flightdeck is so much more than what came before it. First and foremost, this is designed for PC only, and won’t work on Xbox or other consoles. Secondly, this is for enthusiasts of flight, combat, and space sims; Turtle Beach calls this an “expert-level device”. Now, I can’t reasonably have experience with every single HOTAS (Hands-On Throttle And Stick) out there, but have used many. what I do know, is that this is Turtle Beach’s best flight apparatus yet, and the VelocityOne Flightdeck should not be overlooked.
