Darksiders, Red Faction, Among Others Set to Find a Home with Nordic Games when they acquire THQ Inc.’s assets

Apr 23, 2013

Nordic Games announced today that it was one of the successful bidders in THQ´s auction process, which ended on April 15. Subject to approval of the bankruptcy court overseeing THQ’s case, Nordic Games will acquire more than 150 SKUs for a purchasing price of USD 4.9 million spanned across PC, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony platforms.

This constitutes the biggest acquisition deal in the company history of Nordic Games so far. The acquisition is handled by Nordic Games Licensing AB, based in Karlstad, Sweden, whereas the day-to-day business (sales and distribution of said titles, evaluation of sequels & new content etc.) with the acquired portfolio will be conducted by Nordic Games GmbH, based in Vienna, Austria. The Vienna based business along with its North American sister company, Nordic Games NA Inc. already takes care of the previously acquired JoWooD and DreamCatcher IPs.

“First and foremost we are very happy about this deal which also turns over a new leaf for the entire Nordic Games Group. In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles” comments Lars Wingefors, owner and CEO of Nordic Games Group AB. “A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new instalments of acquired IPs.

“In August 2013, Nordic Games Vienna will have been in business for two very exciting and successful years, and this transaction takes us to new heights and challenges for the years to come” says Klemens Kreuzer, Managing Director at Nordic Games GmbH. “We gradually geared up our company over the years in terms of our overall online and boxed business, our range of platforms, and our headcount. This substantial increase of our games portfolio is the next step to maintain and strengthen our position across a wide range of digital platforms, licencing partners in emerging markets, and in our European and North American core markets” adds Reinhard Pollice, Business and Product Development Director at Nordic Games GmbH.

Nordic Games and THQ expect the US Bankruptcy Court to hear the motion for the sale on May 13, 2013 and to finalize the purchase transactions thereafter.

Nordic Games invites everybody who is interested to visit Nordic Games’ forums and openly discuss on how these titles should be moving forward: http://forum.nordicgames.at/forumdisplay.php?909-Discussion-about-THQ-IPs

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for PS3, announced by Konami – Available June 2013

Apr 22, 2013

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced it will release METAL GEAR SOLID: THE LEGACY COLLECTION in North America and South America in June 2013.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the METAL GEAR SOLID franchise, this PlayStation 3 exclusive package will include METAL GEAR SOLID, METAL GEAR SOLID 2: HD Edition, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: HD Edition (which includes the original MSX versions of METAL GEAR and METAL GEAR 2), METAL GEAR SOLID: Peace Walker HD Edition, METAL GEAR SOLID: VR MISSIONS and METAL GEAR SOLID 4: Trophy Edition. In addition, the collection will also include two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels.

“We wanted to give METAL GEAR SOLID fans the opportunity to experience the series from beginning to end, all on one console,” said Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “With the collection’s multiple titles, players can truly see how METAL GEAR SOLID evolved into the critically acclaimed and beloved franchise it is today.”

The METAL GEAR SOLID series is the seminal work of Hideo Kojima, Japan’s master game creator, and the progenitor of the stealth action game genre. With more than 33 million units sold to date, the METAL GEAR series has become a global phenomenon. The player controls a secret agent from an elite special forces unit who is sent on solo stealth missions through enemy installations, vast jungles, and sometimes even the thick of battle.  Alone and surrounded by the enemy, even a special forces agent will find it tough to come out alive. But that is the secret behind the series’ popularity—the cerebral challenge of figuring out how to avoid combat, and the thrill of sneaking through enemy territory undetected.

Along with the gameplay, the METAL GEAR SOLID series is also known for its storyline, which blends seamlessly with the gameplay. The scenarios are based on extensive research and incorporate the  drama of actual developments in society. These elements have made METAL GEAR SOLID what it is today: a mature work of entertainment that transcends national borders and the confines of video games, and one of the leading products of the Japanese content business.

Dead Island Riptide Review

Apr 22, 2013

The story picks up immediately where the original ended. Discussion and exposition regarding the virus and those immune to it (the playable characters) emerges some hostile emotion towards the militaristic and the PMC named Serpo, control of your well-being. A torrential storm hits the ship, as does the virus that plagued Banoi. It wouldn’t be much of a continuation if something catastrophic didn’t happen.

Olivier Deriviere Scores ‘Remember Me’ from Dontnod Entertainment and Capcom

Apr 22, 2013

Classically trained multimedia composer Olivier Deriviere (Alone In The Dark, Of Orcs And Men), whose distinctive soundtracks have been recognized by Billboard and The New York Times, has crafted a unique, electronically manipulated live symphonic score for the upcoming action adventure video game Remember Me developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Capcom. Deriviere’s dynamic emotional score is intricately woven throughout Remember Me’s innovative ‘memory remix’ gameplay experience and immersive futurist story set in Neo-Paris where personal memories are digitized, bought, sold and traded. Remember Me will launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in North America on June 4 and across Europe on June 7, 2013.Remember Me is a 3rd person action adventure where players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even alter their memories. The authorities, fearful of her knowledge and capabilities have arrested Nilin and wiped her memory clean. After her escape from prison, Nilin sets out on a mission to recover her identity, helped by her last and only friend. This search for her past leads to her being hunted by the very people that created this surveillance society. During the course of the story, Nilin will start remembering who she was and re-learning all the fighting moves that made her one of the world’s leading memory hunters.

Olivier Deriviere’s interactive musical score for Remember Me features live orchestra that has been digitally processed and manipulated with multiple layers and effects to create a futuristic – but entirely organic and acoustic – musical palette which reflects Nilin’s memory loss and the reconstruction of her memories throughout the game.

Preview samples of the music are available on SoundCloud.

The score was recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra at Air Studios in London by GRAMMY award-winning score engineer John Kurlander and mastered at Universal Mastering Studios in Los Angeles.
