Company of Heroes 2 scores Cris Velasco of God of War and Mass Effect series to score the game

Apr 11, 2013

Internationally celebrated composer Cris Velasco provides the original score for Relic Entertainment, Inc.’s Company of Heroes 2, the sequel to the highest rated strategy game of all time*.

Velasco is one of the most sought-after composers in the medium, best known for his award-winning music featured in the God of War and Mass Effect franchises. Recorded with world-class orchestra musicians and choir from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary, Velasco’s score for Company of Heroes 2 majestically captures the solemn heroism and human tragedy of the Eastern Front conflict during World War II. Company of Heroes 2 is scheduled to be released for PC on 25th June 2013.

Company of Heroes 2 moves the battle away from the common Western Front focus of World War II and refocuses on some of history’s most brutal and devastating conflicts on the Eastern Front, challenging players to take command of the iconic Red Army and repel the Nazi invaders from the very gates of Moscow.

“Cris Velasco’s score perfectly captures the heroism and tragedy that we set out to portray in Company of Heroes 2,” said Relic Entertainment Audio Director David Renn. “Cris worked tirelessly to provide us with rich and compelling music that is unlike any game soundtrack I have ever heard. From the depths of the Russian winter to the epic scale of Eastern Front battles, the score supports the game in a truly cinematic way and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

“I approached this score from the very beginning as more of a ‘Symphony for the Eastern Front’ rather than a typical game score,” said Cris Velasco. “The music sets out to convey the horror of war and the determination of the Russian soldiers.”

Previously a BAFTA nominee and winner of “Best Original Score” at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Achievement Awards (God of War), Cris Velasco’s music was recently honored with NBC News’ “Best Video Game Music of 2012”, GameTrailers’ “Best Soundtrack of the Year”, IGN’s “People’s Choice Award – Best Overall Music” (Mass Effect 3), and nominated for “Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition” at the 16th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. Velasco’s upcoming score for Company of Heroes 2is highlighted among the “Most Anticipated Video Game Soundtracks of 2013” by Forbes.

Soda Drinker Pro is a simulation that contains a full game, Vivian Clark

Apr 10, 2013

The exsistance of Vivian Clark was originally announced at the Soda Drinker Pro booth at Pax in this interview with Giant Bomb. The only way to access Vivian Clark is through a hidden passage inside Soda Drinker Pro Here’s a tutorial on how.

Because the reception for Vivian Clark was so encouraging at Pax we decided to take it a big step further, so we are running a Kickstarter for the game The current version has 40 worlds but if its successful we are hoping to expand it to 150-500 worlds(maybe even more!). We also want to make every aspect of the game better.  The current demo is still a little quirky and still needs a lot of tweaking.  But if the Kickstarter is successful we’ll be able to spend the time to work on it full time, and make it something like no other!

Jagged Alliance Online getting overhauled and put on Steam

Apr 09, 2013

Jagged Alliance Online will be heading to Steam late-April, but not without undergoing a massive overhaul first. Cliffhanger Productions has been listening to the reactions from players since initially releasing the online-focused sequel to the turn-based tactics series, and the developer is reworking nearly every facet of gameplay.

Jagged Alliance Online is the latest entry in the classic, long-running franchise of tactical, turn-based strategy games. Hire and train mercenaries with the right skills, arm your squad with the latest weaponry and armor, complete over 80 single-player missions, and battle rival mercenary companies in three PvP modes or compete to win one of the regularly unlocked warzones with your alliance.

Highlighted changes in the Steam release include:

  • Improved F2P model – all items in the shop are available through regular play, and can be earned more easily. All known pay-to-win tactics have been eliminated.
  • Total class, weapon, and armor rebalance – starting classes are more balanced, and changes to weaponry allow more freedom to customize a character to your play-style. Sniper with a heavy machinegun? Sure, why not?
  • Better PvP maps – more tactics and fewer Mexican standoffs.
  • Improved mercenary and gear rules – all mercenaries and gear are fully restored after each mission so you can immediately jump back in the game. Players should never be penalized for simply playing.
  • Action Point rebalance – increased Action Points, faster movement speeds, and reduced ready-costs make tactical maneuvering more important while creating a far more exciting gameplay experience.
  • Increased HitPoints, new critical hit rules, status effects, new  exotic weapons and armor, improved AI, and more.

Jagged Alliance Online will be available late-April (pending date confirmation) as a free-to-play PC title through Steam.
