Atari launches classic transport simulation game Transport Tycoon onto Steam and GOG

From Press Release:

New York, NY (March 12, 2026) | Today, Atari announced that the classic transport management simulation Transport Tycoon is now available on Steam and GOG, bringing the iconic 1994 strategy title to modern PC players. Originally created by game designer Chris Sawyer, the game set the standard for transport and economic simulation games with its deep gameplay systems, detailed pixel graphics, subtle animations and extensive configuration options.

In Transport Tycoon, players take control of a transport company as the world’s economy reels from a depression. From these challenging beginnings, they must build a transport empire using trains, ships, trucks, planes and helicopters. As their empire expands, players can leverage technological advances to move more passengers and cargo while competing against computer-controlled rivals.

The original Transport Tycoon DOS version was released in 1994, with ports later arriving on Mac, PlayStation and SEGA Saturn. In 1995 Transport Tycoon Deluxe expanded the experience with new landscapes, weather, vehicles and scenarios, while also extending the historical timeline – allowing players to guide their transport empires for an additional 20 years, from 1950 to 2050. In 2013 the game was adapted for mobile platforms, introducing the classic simulation to a new generation of players.

Now, more than three decades after its debut, Transport Tycoon continues to be praised for its accessible interface and realistic economic simulation. Following its 2024 acquisition of the franchise, Atari is continuing to expand the game’s availability through modern digital platforms, with the Steam release bringing the classic transport builder to a new generation of players.

Transport Tycoon is now available for Steam and GOG for $9.99.
