From Press Release:
Karlstad, Sweden – 16 July, 2026 – Clear River Games, a video game publisher specialising in classic and retro games, in partnership with development studio Tatsujin, today premiered an all-new trailer, detailing the story behind the upcoming shoot ‘em up, Truxton Extreme, ahead of its launch on 30th July, 2026, releasing on PlayStation®5, Nintendo® Switch™2, XBOX and PC (Steam and GOG).
Truxton Extreme is set in 2200 AD, where planet Earth has hit a population exceeding 30 billion people, and civilisation is basking in an age of unprecedented prosperity. Driven by the oldest instinct of life, expansion, humanity branched out and claimed seven more planets. However, that fragile state of peace was soon shattered. Humanity plunged into despair. Mankind is under threat as the planets are terrorised by the alien ‘Geranium’, a self-replicating alien machine lifeform. Amidst the chaos AI President Rose offers a glimmer of hope. Citizens from every corner of the world stepped forward to become TATSUJIN, trained to pilot the advanced tactical fighter ships and fight back. Humanity’s last defence is the TATSUJIN, and its fate lies in their hands…
Through 18 chapters of arcade action and beautiful comic book storytelling, illustrated by renowned Japanese manga artist Junya Inoue (Batsugun, DoDonPachi, Btooom!), players will follow the journey of three TATSUJIN: Ash, Bergamot and Cyrilla. Motivated by honour, revenge and a thirst for knowledge, the TATSUJIN must unite in their war against Geranium to allow humanity to inherit tomorrow. Fail and humanity will be buried beneath it. But at what price? The TATSUJIN already adopt cyborg bodies, having to cast aside their human forms. What is the cost of humanity?

Having released a roster of shmups over the last 25 years, original Truxton mastermind, Masahiro Yuge, has returned to the series that started it all, with its gameplay, soundtrack and ingenious design earning it a place amongst gaming’s most iconic franchises. 38 years later the new entry in the series, Truxton Extreme, has its roots in foundational shoot ‘em up principals and introduces fresh mechanics for modern gamers. There’s more to Truxton Extreme than its action-packed explosive action however, as the development studio, named after the series itself, Tatsujin, has crafted a story that will take players face to face with their nightmares, and have them unleash explosive power on the enemy.
Truxton Extreme will be available on 30th July, 2026, via digital download on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, XBOX and PC (Steam and GOG). The standard digital edition with an MSRP of $24.99/€22.99, and the deluxe digital edition with an MSRP of $29.99/€27.99.
Truxton Extreme will also have a physical release on 30th July, 2026. The standard physical edition will be available with an MSRP of $49.99/€44.99 for Nintendo Switch 2 and $39.99/€34.99 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
