From Press Release:

TOKYO – Feb. 23, 2026 – Independent publisher Happinet is excited to share that its story-rich adventure title Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale will release on PC via Steam on March 3, 2026, for an MSRP of $14.99, €14.79, and £12.79. Starting today, the title will also participate in Steam Next Fest through March 2, with a demo featuring the game’s prologue chapter. Hop into the demo today to learn the origins of Mai’s story, meet a colorful cast of characters, and experience an emotional climax where light and dark collide in a thrilling rhythm-game-inspired sequence. Fans wanting to learn more about the lore and characters can also watch Apopia: The Broken Crown on YouTube, an original animated short that serves as a prequel to the events of the game.

Developed by a core team of two people at Quillo Entertainment, Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is a comedic adventure full of dark mysteries. Play as Mai, a young girl lost in a strange land called Yogurt. Explore a beautiful hand-drawn fantasy world inspired by beloved cartoons between the 1990s and 2010s. Meet an assortment of humorous animal characters along the way, both friend and foe, to learn how Yogurt was taken over by a shadowy tyrant named BOSS. Progress by solving puzzles and outsmarting enemies in minigames to unravel the secret of Mai’s identity from her blurry memories and discover the truth about her family and why she can read minds to access the Dark World: a hidden reality locked within the subconscious of others.

Key Features:

Unravel a Poignant Tale – Brimming with rich symbolism and metaphor, Apopia encourages players to look at things from different perspectives. Its light-hearted exterior is layered with profound themes of parenthood, humanity, companionship, self-discovery, and more.

Play as Multiple Characters – Explore the world through different perspectives and learn more about each character’s unique storyline. Play as a curious young girl named Mai, a kindhearted bunny princess named Moly, a feisty cat named Nico, and more throughout the adventure. Work as a team using character combos to solve problems and defeat enemies with wit instead of weapons.

Explore A New Land – Interact with a distinctive fantasy world to discover clues, solve puzzles, reveal hidden secrets, and complete character-specific quests. Engage in unique real-time boss fights and play a variety of exciting minigames.

Discover Two Distinct Worlds – Use Mai’s power to switch between two inverse realities: the Fantasy World and the Dark World. In the Fantasy World, characters solve physical problems, while the Dark World requires them to overcome psychological obstacles. Traverse these alternate worlds to uncover their secrets and gain new insight.

Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale will be the second title published under the Happinet Indie Collection label, and will include localization for English, Japanese, Chinese (simplified), and Brazilian Portuguese at launch.
