Railway management sim Rail Estate pulls into the station – now available on Steam

From Press Release:

Luzern (CH), July 16th, 2026 – only a handful of months after it was first unveiled in March of this year, indie studio Holonautic’s railway management sim Rail Estate is finally available on Steam! The title, which was initially announced as a multiplayer-first experience, is now shipping with a full story-driven single-player campaign and challenges, several multiplayer modes as well as full Steam Deck and Steam Machine support.

As an aspiring rail tycoon, Rail Estate puts you in control of your own railway management company, where your goal is to outsmart your opponents and become the country’s biggest transportation business. By outbidding opponents for critical routes, managing resources, upgrading trains and cars, and improving lines, you grow your empire while keeping competitors in check. Designed for both strategy and management sim fans, the game merges resource management with quick thinking, offering both a challenging single-player campaign that tasks you with adapting to dynamic terrain and biomes to maximize profits, as well as Free For All and Team v Team multiplayer modes for up to 8 people.

Throughout the development of the game, the team gathered feedback from both players and content creators to create an experience that would appeal to both RTS and management sim fans. Playing an early version of the game, trains, transport and tycoons creator Master Hellish mentioned that “to be honest, I don’t think this game reminds me of anything”, describing it as a new kind of game that is hard to compare to any existing strategy title. At the same time, beta testers who played the demo during Steam Next Fest praised the game’s innovative concept and expressed curiosity for what the full title would offer.

The launch of Rail Estate on July 16th marks an important milestone for Holonautic, which saw the team experiment with and ultimately deliver their first non-VR title. Speaking of the game arriving on Steam, Holonautic co-founder Roger Küng said: “With Rail Estate, we wanted to explore something we feel video games have only scratched the surface of: the thrill of predicting human behaviour. Every match is shaped by how well you read your opponents, when you choose to cooperate, and when you decide to turn against them. We cannot wait to see the strategies, alliances, and rivalries players create when the game launches.”.

About Holonautic

Holonautic is an award-winning independent game studio with a reputation for pushing technical boundaries and exploring unique player interactions. After establishing a successful track record in the VR industry with titles like Surgineer and the double Auggie Award-winning Hand Physics Lab (2021 “Best Game or Toy” and “Best Indie Creator”), the studio is expanding into the world of PC and console gaming.

Our philosophy is simple: we only release games we can’t stop playing ourselves.

The journey to Rail Estate was born from a rigorous R&D process where dozens of game ideas were evaluated and multiple prototypes were put to the test. Rail Estate emerged as the clear winner: a strategy game so engaging that it demanded to be our first “flat-screen” release. We are dedicated to creating unique and addictive experiences that prioritize gameplay above all else.
