Mages of Mystralia launching onto Steam May 18th, PS4 and Xbox One later

Borealys Games is proud to announce the that their first title, Mages of Mystralia™, will launch of Steam on May 18, 2017. The regular price will be $24.99/€24.99 but will be offered at a special 10% off launch window discount for early supporters who buy the game before May 23. The launch date for the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One® versions will be announced shortly.

Mages of Mystralia is an action-adventure game in which players take on the role of Zia, a young girl who just discovered she has the gift of magic. As players progress through the game, they discover runes that enable them to design their own spells – spells they can use to fight enemies, solve environmental puzzles, and save the kingdom of Mystralia. Some of the runes add new behaviors to the spell. Others modify the parameters of those behaviors. And yet others allow players to apply simple conditional rules to combine one or more spells together to create a new megaspell greater than the sum of its parts.

“When we set out to create Mages of Mystralia, we wanted to instill the feeling of being a real mage. Mages are wise and creative. They rely on their wits not physical strength. It was important for us that players be able to use their wits and creativity to play the game the way they wanted to.” said Borealys Games President Louis-Félix Cauchon. “Unlike other games that use magic as a game mechanic, Mages of Mystralia does not include any pre-rendered, hard coded spells for the player to choose from. The only spells in the game are the ones the players design themselves.”

Featuring a full orchestral score performed by the Video Game Orchestra and conducted by Shota Nakama of Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts fame, the story for Mages of Mystralia was written by Ed Greenwood, the author of the Forgotten Realms world of Dungeons and Dragons, which served as the foundation of games such as Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights. Mages of Mystralia recently concluded a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund additional polish and raised 936% of its funding goal.
