Connect the Past with the Present
Launching November 2ⁿᵈ on PC, Mac, iOS and Android, The Past Within marks the first co-op game set in the world of Rusty Lake. Players can already wishlist the game on Steam. Starting today, it is also possible to pre-order the game on Android and iOS through their respective app stores. The game will later also come out on Nintendo Switch!
In The Past Within, two players must work together and communicate with each other as they explore the bizarre, dreamlike universe of Rusty Lake in order to solve the many mysteries surrounding Albert Vanderboom. While one player navigates the Past, the other must venture forth into the Future in the first co-op adventure of the series. The story of The Past Within doesn’t require any prior knowledge of the series to be enjoyed!
As the release date trailer reveals: players will experience their separate environments in 2D and 3D! This is a first, since the Rusty Lake universe has always been, until now, portrayed in 2D. And as long as both players have a way of communicating with each other, they can each choose their preferred platform that they wish to play on, whether they have an active internet connection or not.

Rusty Lake is an indie game studio based in Amsterdam, founded by Robin Ras & Maarten Looise. Since 2015, we have developed 15 surrealistic point-and-click adventure games in the Rusty Lake Universe. Inspired by David Lynch’s TV series: Twin Peaks, the story of all these games are intertwined and every instalment reveals more about the Rusty Lake mysteries.
We have released the following games on PC and mobile: Cube Escape Collection (bundle of our 9 Cube Escape episodes), a free remake of Samsara Room and four premium games: Rusty Lake Hotel, Rusty Lake: Roots, Rusty Lake Paradise and The White Door. Currently working on our first co-op experience: The Past Within set to release on November 2nd 2022.
