Highlander Mech Now Available, does not feature Christopher Lambert

Apr 03, 2013

MechWarrior Online gets some ‘heavy metal’ today as the long-awaited fan-favorite, the Highlander Mech, is now available in the Mech Lab. Additionally, two exciting new game features have also gone live with this latest update – the ‘Air Strike’ and ‘Artillery Strike’ features.

The Air Strike feature allows a pilot to call in a fighter air strike on a targeted zone on the field of battle, dropping up to six bombs after a five second flight time delay. Each bomb rips 10 points of damage, striking a devastating blow on your enemy from above. The Artillery Strike option calls in a barrage of long-range artillery, with up to six shells shattering your foe with 10 points of damage.

New Thermal and Night Vision modes have been updated for players, and the new and extremely popular Testing Grounds have had some performance enhancements with the latest patch.

Forza Horizon gets Top Gear Car Pack for April

Mar 29, 2013

The April Top Gear Car Pack is coming to “Forza Horizon” on April 2, 2013, Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios announced today. Featuring six cars specifically selected by Top Gear Magazine team and Turn 10 Studios’ developers, the April Top Gear Car Pack for “Forza Horizon” includes two car models appearing for the first time: the 2012 Bowler EXR S and the 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato as well as striking performance cars like the 2012 Aston Martin Vanquish. Included in the pack for free for all “Forza Horizon” fans is the ultra-rare 2002 BMW M3-GTR.

The April Top Gear Car Pack will be available for download on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 on Xbox LIVE for 400 Microsoft Points. Players who own the “Forza Horizon” Season Pass will be able to download the April Top Gear Car Pack for no additional cost.

The April Top Gear Car Pack includes:

  • 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportVan – The SuperSportVan is the latest creation in a long-standing series of Ford-built custom transit vans dating back to 1971. The 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportvan dons Le Mans bonnet stripes and an eye-catching livery on the outside. Inside is the 3.2-liter, 198-horsepower engine taken from the much larger Transit Jumbo. What’s the point? It’s a one-off design to show that Ford engineers can have fun too, and it was unveiled at the 2011 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, U.K. It also presents a vast canvas for designs and further customization for “Forza Horizon” fans.
  • 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG Mercedes CLK GTR – Only a street car in the loosest sense of the word, the CLK-GTR is nearly identical to its pure racing counterpart, which dominated the GT1 class at Le Mans so thoroughly that after a few wins no competitor wished to challenge it. Buying a CLK-GTR to use for lightning-quick grocery runs is a questionable plan, but for dominating your friends in Horizon’s Colorado, there are few street-licensable cars that can keep up, putting these drivers in a very exclusive club.
  • 2012 Aston Martin Vanquish – With styling nods to previous Astons and a welcomed upgrade in the engine department, the new Vanquish retains much of the familiar Aston Martin grace, while still receiving a kick in the pants in performance. Its 565-horsepower V12 produces a pleasing growl and will zip the car past nearly everyone else on the highway, all while you bask in the Vanquish’s considerable interior creature comforts.
  • 2012 Bowler EXR S – The Bowler EXR S is the result of the 2012 brand partnership between Land Rover and U.K.-based rally raid manufacturer Bowler. The striking all-terrain vehicle is fitted with a modified version of the Range Rover Sport’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8, and produces 550 bhp, giving it a top speed of more than 150 mph. The first Bowler designed for road use, the EXR S is equally at home in the deepest parts of Horizon’s back roads.
  • 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato – Combine traditional Alfa elegance with 600 horsepower of pure Dodge fury and what do you get? The 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato. This street-legal sports car features an 8.4-litre V10 and the kind of gorgeous curves you’d expect from Italian design center Zagato. In short, this one’s as easy on the eyes and as it is fun on the road.
  • 2002 BMW M3-GTR (FREE Download) – The 2002 BMW M3-GTR is synonymous with rarity. As BMW puts it, “The GTRs (both race and street copies) were never sold to anyone. Only three street copies were built. Not all three were ever shown. A street copy was shown in the U.S. only once, and for less than an hour.” Little wonder, then, that this M3 is bound to be a prize for “Forza Horizon” players

Gears of War: Judgment gets a Limited Time Multiplayer Map and Execution Mode courtesy of MAXIM

Mar 29, 2013

Starting today, begin the executions courtesy of MAXIM and Epic Games with the first game add-on for “Gears of War: Judgment.” The DLC includes the return of the wildly popular multiplayer mode Execution and a new multiplayer map called Haven, which will be free for a limited time only.

In Execution mode, the objective of each team is to kill all members of the enemy team before the time limit runs out. The catch? Unless hit with a one-shot kill weapon like the Booshka, players go into a “Down But Not Out” state and will revive at the end of the bleed-out timer instead of dying. To finish the job, perform an Execution on a downed enemy.

In addition to the new mode and map, special playlists for both Haven and Execution will be available for Gearheads, offering 200% XP boosts for a limited time (VIP pass holders will receive 300% XP boosts in the VIP playlist).

PLEASE NOTE: You must download the DLC pack directly from the game’s title menu or the Xbox 360 dashboard. You can also add it to your download queue with this link via Xbox.com (Thanks @McCarron)The dialogue box prompting you to download the pack in the matchmaking menu is not functioning properly and will be fixed as soon as possible.

In addition to the DLC, the first title update will be going live today as well. Additional details can be found on Epic’s forum.

Nival celebrates 10th Anniversary with the Blitzkrieg series, sale on GOG.com

Mar 28, 2013

On March 28, 2003, Moscow based Nival released the first Blitzkrieg game. The work of a team of one hundred people, it became a landmark in the real-time strategy and World War II gaming, with its focus on historical accuracy with fast gameplay.

This original Blitzkrieg became the foundation for more than twenty commercial games from other developers, many diving even deeper into the greatest battles of WW2.  From the sprawling and bloody turning point of Stalingrad to the exhausting and frozen Talvisota on the Finnish front, developers and fans have used the Blitzkrieg games as the starting point for vivid game-based portrayals of history’s greatest conflict. Even today, countless user mods are being developed and improved – a decade long community project that is a point of pride for Nival and the Blitzkrieg team.

To celebrate Blitzkrieg’s ten year anniversary, both Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2: Anthology are being discounted 60% on GOG.com until March, 31st.

Ten years is a natural moment to celebrate a landmark in game history, but this is not simply living in the past. For the Blitzkrieg series, this is just a beginning…
