Max Payne 3 Painful Memories DLC Coming December 4th

Nov 26, 2012

Inspired by the grisly shootouts from Max’s past, the Painful Memories Pack will bring four new maps and much more to Max Payne 3 Multiplayer this December.

Revisit the subway bloodbath from the original Max Payne in the Roscoe Street Subway map. Flashback to the dingy Hoboken watering hole at Marty’s Bar, open fire on the posh Branco family yacht in Shoot First and wage Gang Wars at Canal De Panamá. The Painful Memories Pack also includes the IMG 5.56 and UAR-21 assault rifles, new avatars, items and the Hangover Burst, which causes enemies to respawn with blurred vision, reduced stamina and health.
Check out the first screens from this pack below, which will be available on December 4th for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE and $9.99 on PlayStation Network and PC (Rockstar Pass owners will receive this content at no additional charge).
Rockstar is also making the new shoot out at the Roscoe Street Subway station artwork above available as desktops and avatars at rockstargames.com/downloads, along with a pair of original illustrations from the Hostage Negotiation Pack featuring the Filhos De Ogum wielding the IA2 Assault Rifle and other weaponry as they attempt to dominate the Estádio Do Galatians and O Palácio Strip Club multiplayer maps.

GamrRank goes Live and Offers the Chance to Win $1000 for playing Hitman: Absolution

Nov 20, 2012

After attracting more than 10,000 gamers from around the world to its closed beta phase, GamrRank.com is live. Created by a team comprised largely of former BioWare staff, GamrRank seeks to help players get rewarded for… well, playing games, and for being part of the global gamer community.

In addition to defining the Ultimate Rank in Games via the titular “GamrRank” (see About GamrRank below), the site gets incredibly meta, turning the act of playing games into a game of its own through Challenges and Medals. Anyone can create a Challenge on GamrRank, challenging other players to upload videos of in-game feats. Medals are meta-achievements, allowing gamers to live the dream of being a game designer by creating achievements that span games – “earn achievement X in game 1 and achievement Y in game 2,” for example.

Each week, GamrRank unleashes new official Medals and Challenges for hot new games, with prizes to be won. More than $2,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs in our current Challenge, and a talented gamer could win $1,000 by uploading a video based on Hitman: Absolution. Who’s up for the Challenge?

Skylanders Battlegrounds and Lost Islands joins Cloud Patrol in iOS releases

Nov 20, 2012

Activision Publishing, Inc. announced today the addition of two new mobile titles – Skylanders Lost Islands available now for download exclusively on the App Store and Skylanders Battlegrounds now available as a physical starter pack at retail, and will be available digitally as a standalone iOS App tomorrow, November 21.

Skylanders Battlegrounds notches another first for the franchise by bringing its signature blend of physical and virtual play from the console experience to mobile devices. The Skylanders Battlegrounds Starter Pack includes a special wireless Bluetooth Portal of Power® that brings your figures to life on iOS, and three characters: Jet Vac, Series 2 Cynder and Double Trouble, and a Platinum Treasure Chest stocked with digital items for use in Skylanders Battlegrounds.

Skylanders Battlegrounds features:

  • An entirely new Action RPG experience designed from the ground up for mobile devices, featuring innovative team-up gameplay in which the player controls two Skylanders at the same time.
  • Episodic content, starting with twenty levels and two mega bosses upon initial release. Additional levels and bosses will be delivered through app updates for free.
  • Gamers who purchase the Skylanders Battlegrounds Starter Pack get to use the included platinum treasure chest that automatically unlocks loads of in-game loot including a coin and XP multiplier, health potions, bombs, and much more.

The complete Skylanders Battlegrounds Starter Pack is available at retail for $49.99, and includes a redemption code to download the game from the App Store. The standalone app is available on November 21 in the App Store on iOS devices directly for $6.99; no peripherals or figures are required to play. However, the Bluetooth Portal of Power included in the Skylanders Battlegrounds Starter Pack will work with all of the available digital apps, letting players use their favorite Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure® and Skylanders Giants figures with Skylanders Battlegrounds, as well as Skylanders Lost Islands and the updated Skylanders Cloud Patrol.

Skylanders Lost Islands, an innovative character and resource management game, gives Portal Masters a chance to rebuild and customize their own slice of the Skylands. Players can play with their Skylanders by sending them off on quests and adventures, using them to ward off evil trolls, and chase away pesky sheep all while helping the peaceful Mabu rebuild their homeland in the sky.

Meanwhile, Skylanders Cloud Patrol continues to build momentum as a top casual title on iOS, with a massive new update that introduces an all-new social multiplayer Daily Showdowns mode. Challenge your friends to a Showdown, send them taunts via push notifications and beat them to earn in-game currency. Don’t worry if you lose, every day there’s a new Showdown. This is all possible with the debut of ACTIVATE – Activision’s new mobile gaming platform that delivers extended online features and services to mobile gamers, including cloud storage of user’s toy collection and save games across iOS devices. And even bigger enhancements are on tap for the game. Later this year, the Skylanders Giants characters will be joining the Skylanders Cloud Patrol.

Retro City Rampage Gets a Big Update, Out Now

Nov 19, 2012

Retro City Rampage launched last month and the reception’s been amazing. It was the #1 PS Vita game for October and holds a 9.5+ customer score based on well over 1,000 ratings over the three platforms. We even gave the game a 4/5.

Still, with the high praise there was room for improvement. Striving to make the best possible game, I have spent the past month making it even better based on the feedback from you, the players. The updates are now available on all current platforms: PC (Worldwide), PS3 and PS Vita (North America).

The still to be released platforms (XBLA, WiiWare and EU PS3/Vita) will include all of these updates day one. There is no release date yet for the remaining SKUs, but all versions are complete and either well into certification or starting shortly. As the remaining SKUs were not yet out the door at the time of launch, I made the decision to take this as an opportunity to ensure that at minimum, those still waiting for the game would get a better experience from the get-go. The update includes faster cars, tips screens, shop icons on the map, additional tutorials, checkpoints, level balancing and more. Some missions have even been completely overhauled for the better.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Review

Nov 19, 2012

Say what you will about the Call of Duty series, but you can’t deny it’s amazing success and popularity. While the Modern Warfare series and concept has stagnated, Treyarch’s Black Ops series has a unique narrative that deserves your attention as well as inventive multiplayer that changes how you play. The most surprising things about Black Ops II is in the periphery while the core gameplay remains the same.
