There’s a major (controversial?) and exciting change to the World of Warcraft Scroll of Resurrection, a feature that lets existing players invite old friends back to the game… and receive epic rewards in the process.

For a limited time, anyone who accepts a Scroll will receive the following benefits:

  • · A single character immediately boosted all the way to level 80 — DING!

Hasbro and Blizzard announce MONOPOLY: World of Warcraft and RISK: Starcraft

Feb 13, 2012

USAOPOLY (under license by Hasbro, Inc.) announces a partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. to release fresh takes on two classic board games. MONOPOLY: World of Warcraft and RISK: StarCraft combine tried-and-true foundations with new designs and gameplay elements inspired by Blizzard’s popular gaming universes. Those who dare to engage will discover a new chance to claim supremacy, both over their friends and over the battle-torn lands of Azeroth and the Koprulu Sector.

While I kind of get RISK: StarCraft, MONOPOLY: World of Warcraft seems a bit of a stretch – but I’m interested nonetheless.

MONOPOLY: World of Warcraft

Descend into a world of myth, magic and legendary adventure to battle for control of World of Warcraft’s iconic locations. Featuring custom graphics from Blizzard Entertainment’s world-class artists and designers, the MONOPOLY game’s land grab includes coveted real estate such as Twilight Highlands, Grizzly Hills and the Swamp of Sorrows. In the rush to rule over the faction capitals of Orgrimmar and Stormwind, players will feverishly buy, sell and trade in true MONOPOLY fashion, until one player controls the lands and vanquishes all comers.

This handsomely crafted MONOPOLY game formally debuts at the 109th annual Toy Fair, this February 12th in New York City.  World of Warcraft players, however, will be treated to a sneak peek via the World of Warcraft Facebook page and have the opportunity to vote on the game’s iconic tokens. Ten options, including Murky, Chen’s Keg, Mechagnome, and a Spellbook, will be presented; the six most popular tokens will be represented in the game when it launches this May.

Other notable highlights of the Monopoly game include custom sculpted houses (Warcraft towns) and hotels (Warcraft cities) plus a red and blue die representing the Horde and Alliance factions.  There has never been a better time to engage face-to-face in World of Warcraft’s epic power struggle. The game retails for $39.95 and will be available in specialty stores across North America.

World of Warcraft Auctions off Server Blades to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital

Oct 14, 2011

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced a series of special charity auctions featuring server-blade hardware that was originally used during the early days of the company’s award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft®Game enthusiasts around the world will get a unique chance to own a piece of World of Warcraft history — original HP BladeSystem servers that once housed hundreds of different realms across North America and Europe. The net proceeds from the auction will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

“World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighborhoods of the game’s community — they contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences. The best part is that this auction benefits a great charity doing tremendous work in helping children from the U.S. and around the world.”

In total, approximately 2,000 of the original server blades from about 500 different World of Warcraft realms will be auctioned. The server blades will each be contained in a custom windowed case featuring the World of Warcraft logo and offering a view of the computer hardware inside. They will also come with a commemorative plaque signed by the World of Warcraft team, making each one a true collector’s item.

The server blades will be auctioned in batches over the course of four weeks, beginning on October 17, 2011. Auctions will take place on eBay and will be managed by Kompolt®, a world leader specializing in online charity auctions. “There’s no better way to cap off two days of gaming entertainment than by blowing the roof off the convention center with an awesome rock concert,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Everyone attending BlizzCon and watching from home can look forward to ending the show with a bang when Foo Fighters bring the house down.”

World of Warcraft Real ID Party testing

Jul 16, 2011

From the latest WoW Blog, they have rolled out a new feature using Real ID. This feature allows World of Warcraft players to invite their Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player normal or Heroic dungeon.

We have provided the FAQ for convenience to answer any immediate questions regarding this:

Real ID Party Feature — Test Phase FAQ

Q: What is the Real ID Party feature?

A: Players can now invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a 5-player normal or Heroic dungeon group, regardless of what realm their friends are on. This system is designed to make it easier for real-life friends to play together.

Q: How do I invite Real ID friends to a Real ID party?

A: Inviting a Real ID friend to a Real ID Party is simple. Just open up your Friends list to see which Real ID friends are online. Click on the “Plus” button to send an invitation to a Real ID friend to join your group. You can continue to add Real ID friends to your party until the group is complete. If you cannot complete the group with Real ID friends, you are free to join the Dungeon Finder to fill in the missing roles.

Q: Does a player need to have Real ID enabled to accept a Real ID group invite?

A: Yes, a player must have Real ID enabled, and both players must be Real ID friends to accept or initiate Real ID party invitations.

Q:  Can a party leader invite a mix of Real ID friends, character-level friends, guildmates, or random players to the same party?

A: A party leader can invite any combination of Real ID friends from any realm, guildmates from the same realm, or other characters from the same realm to the same party. If the party leader isn’t able to fill up the entire party, the Dungeon Finder can fill in the missing roles.

Q: Can I invite someone who is not a Real ID friend?

A: You can only invite members to a party if they are on your Real ID friends list or if they are on the same realm as you are.

Q: Can I invite a friend of a Real ID friend?

A: No, you can only invite your own Real ID friends to the party.

Q: How long will the testing period last?

A: We haven’t yet determined how long the testing period will last. We’ll keep you updated on the status and inform you when the test period is going to end in the future.

Q: Will aspects of the Real ID Party system be premium-based?

A: We’ll have information on this toward the end of the testing period.

You know what they say, ain’t no party like a Real ID party! I think this is a great idea, to be able to get together with your friends in a more secure manner. With it being in a beta/testing phase, hard to say what the premium aspect may end up being. But all in all it looks like they are doing the best to provide you with playing with your friends in the easiest way possible.

QUASI-REVIEW: World of Warcraft – The 30-Day Trial

Jun 13, 2011

So back when I wrote this story, I figured I’d give World of Warcraft a shot since it gave me a solid 30 days. Now, I’ll note that I did not play at least once every day. But I did play up until Level 21 on the Alliance side as a Human Warrior, on the Doomhammer server. This ended up being more of a psychological piece of work rather than anything else. During my short time with the game (in comparison to the THOUSANDS of hours).

World of Warcraft base game being handed out by Blizzard?

Apr 18, 2011

So I was sitting at home last night deciding whether or not to look more into RIFT or go with a classic like World of Warcraft. I logged into my Blizzard account to see if I could activate a 10-day trial. To my surprise, there was a message awaiting me. I could activate the full base game of World of Warcraft and get 30-days of play for free. Decisions decisions…
