Metro Redux Review

Aug 19, 2014

With just over a year separating the release of Metro Redux with Metro: Last Light, one has to wonder what makes this release so special. Firstly, it contains both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in a bundle. It might be easy to think that it’s just Metro 2033 as an HD remake and a simple re-release of Metro: Last Light for a quick cash-in to go along with it. This is not so. Many significant, substantial changes have been made to remaster each game that warrants the purchase, even if you’ve played recently.

Risen 3: Titan Lords Review

Aug 15, 2014

Piranha Bytes’ heritage of making deep and expansive RPGs somehow got lost over the years. Their desire of returning to their roots for Risen 3: Titan Lords does not go unfulfilled. The European developer delivers on all their promises to make an enjoyable, robust, and even a bit strange of an RPG that imposes no rush on progressing through the story in a timely manner.

Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition Review

Aug 14, 2014

Being a real-life surgeon requires years of schooling and practice alongside a steady hand. Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition doesn’t need any of that. Malpractice is the name of the game. Crack ribs with a hammer, cut a heart out with a hacksaw, and free kidneys with a laser. These are the tools of the Surgeon Simulator trade, making for a hilarious and somewhat stressful take on something serious as surgery.

Sacred 3 Review

Aug 12, 2014

The Sacred series is likely not a household name when compared to the likes of Diablo. It filled a very specific void in the hearts of those who appreciated a deep action RPG. There is no such void now, and the original series’ developers are no more. So when Deep Silver went to resurrect this dormant series, it was going to be interesting as to what the result would be. While a much different game, Sacred 3 is fine in its own right, is not the Sacred you remember or even want.

Lovely Planet Review

Aug 11, 2014

Don’t let the cute visuals deceive you. Within lies a difficult, and sometimes cruel game. Much like Australia’s adorable koala, can be mean at a moment’s notice. This is the same for Lovely Planet, a speedrunner that you will love with all the cuteness on display, but then, it will turn on you.

Tiny Wizard is Very Free and Very Alpha, and the dev is looking for your feedback

Aug 08, 2014

Tiny Wizard is the continuation of a Ludum Dare project from 2012 from developer, Hannes Rahm. The game is off to a good start, but the developer wants your feedback to help the game be better, and doing it all for free is really awesome.

Sniper Elite III Review

Jul 28, 2014

During World War II, snipers instilled fear and confusion unto opposing soldiers. Shots rang out from impossible directions, often killing important members in the chain of command. This brand of tyranny made snipers the most important part of any battalion. In Sniper Elite III, this power and control you have over the enemy is felt as each bullet passes through the cranial cavity of those you point your rifle at.

OlliOlli (PC) Review

Jul 22, 2014

To paraphrase Bushnell’s Law, OlliOlli epitomizes the “Easy to learn, hard to master” aphorism. There’s an air of the replayability and quick reloading of Canabalt meets the condensed control scheme of skate. along with the zaniness of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. All of it is nailed so well that it becomes it’s own beast. However, this beast will often chew you up and spit you out until you become better at it.

Contraption Maker Review

Jul 21, 2014

Growing up, my introduction to Rube Goldberg and the complex machines that perform simple tasks was first seen in “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” with the memorable Breakfast Maker. Then, in the early 90s came The Incredible Machine series. Spotkin, the developer comprised of those who worked on those games have made a spiritual successor, Contraption Maker. The result is a faithful recreation, while introducing modern elements that make it relevant and worth playing.
