Unreal Indie Bundle available today, Offers Seven Games for $20

Apr 29, 2013

Epic Games, Inc. has worked with numerous exceptionally talented independent developers to put together the very first Unreal Indie Bundle, giving gamers seven acclaimed, Unreal Engine 3-powered indie games for the price of one. For one week the Unreal Indie Bundle is available for $19.99 (USD), £14.99 (GBP) and €17.99 (EUR) on Steam.

From the tower-defending excitement of Trendy Entertainment’s “Dungeon Defenders” to the abstract first-person puzzling of Toxic Games’ “Q.U.B.E.,” the limited-time Unreal Indie Bundle showcases the great variety of games that can be developed using Epic’s industry-leading Unreal Engine technology.

Here’s a rundown of the titles included in the bundle, which launches today:

o   “The Ball” is a first person action-adventure game featuring a captivating single-player campaign. When a swashbuckling archaeologist working on a dormant Mexican volcano gets stuck in a cavern, it doesn’t take long to realize there is much more to this exotic place.

o   Save the land of Etheria from an Ancient Evil in the tower defense action-RPG “Dungeon Defenders.” Create a hero from one of four distinct classes to fight back wave after wave of enemies by summoning defenses and directly participating in the action-packed combat.

o   “Primal Carnage” is an online multiplayer shooter that engrosses players in skilled PVP combat, team-based strategy and savage class-oriented matches unlike any previously experienced. Be it an armed human mercenary or a cunning dinosaur, “Primal Carnage” unleashes the inner beast in anyone who seeks to survive amongst the fittest.

o   Set in a mysterious and abstract sterile environment, “Q.U.B.E.” (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion) is a first-person puzzle game that challenges players to navigate each level by manipulating coloured cubes that surround them.

o   You think Tower Defense games are all about building? You thought wrong. Sanctum is not an average tower defense title. When the havoc starts, join the fray! As a pioneer of the first-person shooter – tower defense genre, “Sanctum” takes the best of both worlds to deliver an epic, one-of-a-kind experience.

o   “Unmechanical” is a puzzle adventure that combines tricky puzzle solving, alluring exploration and an engrossing atmosphere. Set in a fantastic world of flesh, rock and steel, the journey to freedom requires solving a great variety of puzzling challenges. While it’s easy to pick up and play, later challenges may prove very difficult indeed.

o   Shooter fans deserve more. And those who haven’t discovered the pleasure of twin-stick destruction deserve an entry point. Introducing “Waves,” a twin-stick shooter that can be played by anyone, but with a high enough skill threshold to keep even the most hardened shooter fan entertained.

Using Overlord Mode, you can control these minions from a top-down ‘RTS-style’ perspective. Did we mention he can have two pets?

Trendy Entertainment is proud to announce the first ever Dungeon Defenders mapping contest! Savvy creators are in for a treat, as the winning map will be bought from the designer for $1,000 dollars, and the map will be introduced as an official Dungeon Defenders map with the creator(s) credited for their work. Not only that, but runners-up will get some crazy awesome loot and cash prizes too.

For the complete breakdown of rules, submission process, prizes and further information, click HERE. Otherwise, here’s the quickie breakdown:

The rules are quite simple!

  1. Maps should be traditional Tower Defense, supporting 4-6 Heroes. Use of special mechanics like fans and magic carpets is fine. Boss fights are also allowed.

  4. Maps created prior to the start of this contest are ineligible.
  5. Do your best to make the map actually work. You will not be disqualified if the map contains errors. I.e. a particular monster spawn is broken, last wave doesn’t end properly, whatever. However, you will suffer a small penalty in the scoring process.
  6. Entries must be submitted no later than June 21 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Maps will be judged by a popular and judge vote based on Balance, Originality, Detailing, and Optimization. For a breakdown of these categories, go HERE.

Dungeon Defenders to get Penny Arcade character skins

Apr 02, 2012

Is there a better way to get into the spirit of PAX than to have one of the best-selling digital titles of all time sport new and awesome Penny Arcade character skins? Trendy Entertainment thinks not, and as a result, are thrilled and honored to announce that for the PC version of Dungeon Defenders, several of the beloved webcomic’s characters will be playable as part of a special PAX-themed DLC pack on sale on Steam by Friday, April 6 (http://www.dungeondefenders.com/PennyArcade)! Come by the Reverb Publishing booth (808) to see the Penny Arcade characters in action and to grab a giveaway card that will include a code to grab the character pack DLC for free! Supplies are VERY limited, so come by early and often.

“We’re all HUGE fans of the Penny Arcade strip, and of how they’ve consistently churned out hilarious and thought-provoking comics on the gaming industry for well over a dozen years,” said Jeremy Stieglitz, CTO and co-founder of Trendy Entertainment. “It’s a gigantic feather in our cap to hear that Mike and Jerry are fans of Dungeon Defenders – they’re famously selective about which games they work with, and we’re ecstatic to have made the cut. We hope these characters provide some levity and excitement for our PC players leading into the best gaming festival around.”

Here are the four Penny Arcade character skins coming to the PC version of Dungeon Defenders:

  • • Cardboard Tube Samurai (Gabe’s alter-ego – skin for the Monk Class)
  • • Tycho (skin for the Squire Class)
  • • Annarchy (skin for the Huntress Class)
  • • Jim Darkmagic (skin for the Apprentice Class)

In addition to all this Penny Arcade goodness, Trendy is awesome enough to give PAX goers a chance to play the upcoming Aquanos DLC (part three of four from the Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards DLC) before it’s live! If you’re at PAX, you definitely don’t want to miss out coming by Reverb’s 808 booth.

Dungeon Defenders 75% Off Today on Steam

Dec 28, 2011

When Dungeon Defenders first came out, I tried the XBLA and PC demos. The XBLA demo did not leave a good impression with me control wise, but after playing the PC demo I was left with a much better impression and a lot more customization (mainly the UI size). It’s tower defense yes, but it is bright and colorful and you’re in the middle of the action (much like Orcs Must Die!) but this vibrant game also has MANY levels to play as well as free and paid DLC in constant support of the game.  A few weeks ago it went on sale (similar to this) and I immediately bought a 4-pack and gave away 3 copies to friends. So while we don’t have an official review, it comes highly recommend and today is a good day to buy.

We hope you’re enjoying this holiday season, because we’re about to make it even better! A ton of people were lucky enough to catch Dungeon Defenders on Steam for 75% off a while back, and now, those who missed it have the same opportunity! Dungeon Defenders has been 50% off since December 20th, but today and for one day only, Steam has Dungeon Defenders and some of its DLC at 75% off yet again! You have to hurry if you want to get in on this sweet deal; again, TODAY ONLY! If you miss it, though, don’t worry – it’ll still be 50% off through January 2nd.

Buy it now on Steam for 75% off:

Dungeon Defenders – $3.75

Dungeon Defenders New Heroes DLC – $1.25

Dungeon Defenders Warping Core Challenge Mission Pack – $.49

Dungeon Defenders The Great Turkey Hunt – $.49

Dungeon Defenders Halloween Mission Pack – $.49
