QUASI-REVIEW: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Aug 04, 2011

I wasn’t much of a console gamer growing up, so I missed many of classic console game franchises that many of my generation have love for such as Metroid, Zelda, Final Fantasy and Castlevania. However, I feel as though my lack of nostalgia for the Castlevania series has helped me get over the fact that it is such a radical change from previous entries in the series and allowed me to see the game for what it truly is: one of the best linear action-adventures ever released.

QUASI-REVIEW: World of Warcraft – The 30-Day Trial

Jun 13, 2011

So back when I wrote this story, I figured I’d give World of Warcraft a shot since it gave me a solid 30 days. Now, I’ll note that I did not play at least once every day. But I did play up until Level 21 on the Alliance side as a Human Warrior, on the Doomhammer server. This ended up being more of a psychological piece of work rather than anything else. During my short time with the game (in comparison to the THOUSANDS of hours).

Top 8 Games with Weather Effects

May 09, 2011

Weather in games can be extremely immersive. It’s what sells the game both at the store and once it’s in the disc drive. When I play an open world game, a driving game, or a first person game – I want the world to bring me in, to truly explore and play in it like no other. I’ll play a game for it’s weather based on the season or the weather in my area to just to complete the feeling. I do want to note I’m ONLY discussing games with good weather effects, not environments.

So let’s start at the bottom and work our way to the top at my Top 8 Games with Weather Effects.

QUASI-REVIEW: Alan Wake

Apr 18, 2011

Alan Wake, I think every Xbox 360 owner owes it to themselves to play this game, or at least try.  The story is solid and really engages you to keep coming back.  I liked the way the chapters are laid out like a TV show, it’s genius in that I felt more involved with the story.  Speaking of story, it’s a little out there.  You’re a famous novelist who takes a trip to quiet little town with his wife.  The plan is to relax and get over his writer’s block; well that’s his wife’s plan anyway, Alan just wants to relax.

QUASI-REVIEW: RIFT

Apr 13, 2011

“We’re not in Azeroth anymore.” With this bold statement, RIFT entered the MMORPG boxing ring this past March to go toe to toe with the current heavyweight champion, World of Warcraft. But is it any match for the game that has dominated the online RPG market since its debut? Is it better than WoW? Should you unsubscribe to WoW and pick up this game ASAP? When will Guild Wars 2 come out? (Answer: NEVER.) All this and more will be answered in this review!

Interview with Kevin Gudgeirsson of Game Vault app

Feb 25, 2011

I wanted to take the time to highlight a fantastic game collection app for iPhone called “Game Vault”. It allows you to create a portable game collection to track and show off to friends. I recently caught up with the creator, Kevin Gudgeirsson for an interview on the app a few other things.

QUASI-REVIEW: Enslaved

Feb 24, 2011

So Enslaved, this game should have been marketed better, it’s good. It’s easily one of the most overlooked games of 2010.  The story is a re-imagining of the ancient Chinese story, “Odyssey to the West”.

Social Game Tracking: Raptr vs Playfire

Feb 17, 2011

You have Facebook and Twitter for forming social networks of friends, family, etc. Now there are an even tighter focus on the social networks: videogames. There is now Raptr and Playfire vying for your attention. Raptr has been around a while, and just recently hit 6 million users. Playfire is currently in beta, and might have what it takes to steal some of those users. I will cover all aspects of the service and the options at your disposal. But ultimately, this is my opinion and it will be up to you, as far as preferences go. So let’s get started:

QUASI-REVIEW: Battlestar Galactica Online

Feb 16, 2011

If you know me at all, I am a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica. I was late to the party on the series and started watching (from the beginning) just as the series was nearing it’s finale. I wish I had watched the show when it was originally on, I don’t know how I missed out on so long. It really is one of the best television series of all-time, and one of the best sci-fi series as well. The video-game counterparts of BSG haven’t been good. In 2003, there was a game for Xbox that was based on the original 1978 series. Then in 2007, there was an XBLA game that was based on the re-imagined series but did not sell or review well. Now, Bigpoint Games aims to please the Battlestar fans with their browser-based MMO: Battlestar Galactica Online which takes place in the back half of Season 2 of the series.

QUASI-REVIEW: Champions Online

Feb 01, 2011

Cryptic Studios on January 25th changed their pricing model for the superhero MMO Champions Online to a Free to Play system. Since I can’t slap a score on a free game nor have I played enough to evaluate everything. I am making this a Quick Save, a feature where we have a look at a game for an extended period of time where we can’t preview it or review it.

Please Do Not Turn Off Your Browser

Jan 24, 2011

Hello and welcome. So what is Saving Content? Well outside of being a dialogue box that you see in games when you hit a checkpoint or manually save – it’s a website about videogames. We are just two guys who love games, and want to provide something that people will enjoy. We will try to be different, independent, unique, and hopefully funny at times.

Let me break down the sections:

News: We will bring you the news as it happens about the things we care about, and that we think you’ll care about too.

  • Reviews: The platforms you see is about as diverse as we’ll get. Between the two of us, that’s as lot of coverage and we hope to bring you timely reviews. Hopefully around the time they hit the bargain bin. Kidding. Well, maybe.

Podcasts: We will try to do a podcast either every week or every couple of weeks. How about this, we will make sure that one podcast a month is out. Sound good? I thought so.

  • About: Want to learn the origin story of Saving Content? Want to game with the editors?? Click the About link at the top to gain that knowledge!

You’ll notice we don’t have a Previews section. I don’t want to cut and paste someone else’s preview, so until we get noticed and get our own hands-on it’s not going to be a part of this website. We aren’t trying to be the biggest thing in videogames, we do this for our own personal passion for games and our need to be silly.

So please, enjoy your stay and please get the word out about us. Thank you.
