Interceptor Entertainment’s reboot of the brain-splattering, guns-blazing, eyeballs-to-the-wall FPS, Rise of the Triad, is Steam’s Daily Deal and rocking a massive 80% discount.
GOG.com and Apogee Software are celebrating the retro charm of FPS classics by giving away 30,000 copies of Rise of the Triadentirely for free starting at 4:00 PM GMT (12:00 PM EDT / 9:00 AM PDT /5:00 PM CET).
From the creators of 2013’s Rise of the Triad comes Bombshell, a top-down action role-playing game for PC and PlayStation 4.
Danish investment firm, SDN Invest, has acquired Apogee Software, Ltd d/b/a 3D Realms (not to be confused with Apogee Software, LLC – publishers of Rise of the Triad) SDN Invest is part-owner and principal investor in Denmark-based game studio and Rise of the Triad developer, Interceptor Entertainment. Effective immediately, the new CEO of 3D Realms will be Mike Nielsen. Mr. Nielsen also serves as Chairman of the Board at Interceptor.
With the release of Rise of the Triad v1.3 – Interceptor Entertainment and Apogee Software have teamed up with Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog to add Shadow Warrior’s Lo Wang to Rise of the Triad to engage in ludicrous multiplayer with the H.U.N.T Team on San Nicolas Island!
Moreover, as a souvenir from his journey, Lo Wang will be bringing the legendary Excalibat from Rise of the Triad into Shadow Warrior starting today!
But wait, there’s more.
FIVE of the most popular custom maps from the Rise of the Triad community have been officially added to the game. The ROTT community is too based.
The Interceptor team takes requests and Rise of the Triad 1.2 is chock-full of fan favorites and most-requested features. Especially quicksaves. How could a “PC-focused” game in 2013 come out WITHOUT the ability to Quicksave??
All the words that follow are from Dave Oshry’s mouth…
First up is the Ludicrous Development Kit, enabling the creation of custom maps and mods (remember those?!) with over 16,000 assets including the complete set of assets from Rise of the Triad, the original version. Yeah, Interceptor INVENTED the remix, but this is your chance to party like it’s 1995. Check this video for details and click this link to get started.
Next up: Quicksaves! Save and load your game anywhere and anytime and shh, we won’t tell how many tries you needed to make that jump. It’ll be our little secret. Heh heh heh.
And then, KABLAMMO, No More Loggins, Kenny! Quit trying to remember your username and password because with Rise of the Triad 1.2, you only need to login to the servers if you want to sync your offline saves, post your high scores to the leaderboards, or chat with other players via the in-game chat rooms. Logging in is no longer required for multiplayer at all! Even a few mouseclicks and keystrokes can’t stop the fun.
Mamma mia! There are also dozens of new fixes, tweaks, changes and optimizations you can read about in this awesome forum link.
Players wanting to check out all the madness of Rise of the Triad but not wanting to shell out ludicrous dinero will have a special chance to grab the award-winning remake for 50% off as part of Steam and GOG.com’s Halloween sales. This sale runs from Tuesday through Friday, so grab it in time to fill the weekend with blood, guts, and rockets to the groin. Baseball is over and your fantasy team sucks, what else ya gonna do this weekend?
The wait is over: the first Rise of the Triad update is now live on Steam and GOG.com, including hundreds of fixes, tweaks, optimizations and features requested by the rabid fan community during the first month since release. Said Frederik Schreiber of Interceptor Entertainment: “We are extremely happy about the feedback we have gotten from you guys and we couldn’t have done it without you.” He’s talking about the fans there. Duh.
The team has spent the last month collecting every single bug, tweak and suggestion posted on forums, blogs and websites, in order to create one mega patch. On top of all that, Interceptor has also been working on five brand new multiplayer maps and a map playlist tool — among the most requested features from the community — which are also included in patch 1.1. And it’s all absolutely free, of course.

Classic FPS games in the 90s contained certain elements that make them classics such as speed, cool weapons, open traversal, and secrets. Rise of the Triad (ROTT) was one of those games. Many have attempted to emulate old school FPS’, but have failed to do so on a fundamental level. Will the new ROTT cause a rise in your blood pressure out of frustration, or a rise in your pants from pleasure?
Rise of the Triad inches ever closer to release, and Interceptor Entertainment and Apogee Software are ready to talk about the game’s environments.
What’s it like rebooting a classic shooter as crazy as Rise of the Triad for today’s discerning gamer? That’s the subject of the first Production Diary documentary:
No time for pleasantries; this deal is going to self-destruct in less than 24 hours.
Rise of the Triad — the original landmark shooter, not the instant-classic remake we’re working on — is 60% off at GOG.com today (and today only!)… so that’s one of the craziest classic shooters for just $2.39, DRM-free and packed with the soundtrack and 7 extra levels.

Rise of the Triad is shaping up to be full of enthusiasm and detail.
The developer blog just launched, and in the first entry, Interceptor’s CEO and Game Director Frederik Schreiber tells you all about the way we’re making levels that will not only be a lot of fun for today’s discerning gamer, but won’t piss off fans of the original ROTT. In other words, how the team is recreating and reimagining the original’s levels with fancy new graphics.
Watch Frederik create part of level E2L2, aka “The Room”, in this great time-lapse video:
