QUASI-REVIEW: Bayonetta

Oct 13, 2012

Dear Journal,

My date with Bayonetta was, to say the least, strange. It turns out she’s a badass, overly sexual witch who’s quite confident in herself. She’s crazy and so is her game direction. All her action is over the top and the enemy designs are just as out there. There is a story going on here but hell if I know what’s happening. From what she’s told me, it has something to do with Bayonetta being a witch, forgetting her past, long legs, British accents, boobs, and ass. With her memory lost she becomes sort of a hit-woman for, what I can gasp, is the Devil. Don’t hold me to any of this if I’m wrong because I was having a hell of a time keeping up with the story at all.

Meet the PR: Stephanie Schopp of Tinsley PR

Aug 17, 2012

Since starting Saving Content, I have made several relationships with Public Relations to promote their games as well as write Previews and Reviews of the games. I’d like to highlight them as they do outstanding work but many people really don’t know who they are, until now.

E3 2012 – Day 1 Roundup

Jun 05, 2012

Another day, though a bit shorter than yesterday. I started the day at Nintendo for the Press Conference.

QUASI-REVIEW: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

May 07, 2012

Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher. A witcher is a mutated human, and are not looked at too kindly by regular humans – but are depended upon when monsters come. This goes for the elves and dwarves that do not like each other. A common thread is racism and dealing with change. The Witcher 2 picks up in 1271 following the events of The Witcher. The Xbox 360 version of the game includes extras that help bring a new player current on the story to reduce confusion.

QUASI-REVIEW: Global Agenda: Free Agent

Mar 08, 2012

Global Agenda is a massively multiplayer, futuristic third person shooter set in the year 2155 where any fragment of decency is gone and the government, the Commonwealth Prime, is looking to take control of the planet. The game is both MMO and third person shooter. The game includes PvP/PvE matches and a campaign of a massive scale. For the amount of time with the game I had, I found it to be quite fun, and I’m not even the target audience here. From what I’ve played so far, there are plenty of missions to do and things to keep you occupied for a free to play MMO.

Double Fine Using Kickstarter Bothers Me

Feb 10, 2012

I asked a very simple question on Twitter that sparked healthy conversation between friends and acquaintances regarding my feelings about Double Fine starting a project using Kickstarter, a secure, crowd-source funding platform. Though I’m clearly in the minority for my thinking on this. A friend even stated I was being “mean spirited”, which is not my intention – I know it is a narrow focus of discussion, but it bothers me. I am a huge fan of Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions and have nothing against them or the idea of getting funding from fans to start a project that would otherwise never exist.

Saving Content’s Staff Picks for Our Favorite Games of 2011

Dec 31, 2011

It’s the end of 2011, and we all have played a lot of games. We’ve gotten together to list our favorite games of each category (that we’ve actually played). You’ll find some commonalities here and there but varying degrees of personal taste start to shine through.

QUASI-REVIEW: Dark Souls

Nov 28, 2011

Demon’s Souls, From Software’s previous title was declared one of the hardest games ever made. It to this day has a devoted fan base and while it didn’t reach record-breaking sales, it allowed for another game to be created. One detriment and complaint about Demon’s Souls was that it was a PS3 exclusive. From Software has since changed publishers and created the spiritual successor, Dark Souls for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

QUASI-REVIEW: Yakuza 3

Aug 29, 2011

When I first heard of the Yakuza series, I was a heartbroken fan of the Shenmue series looking for a replacement. Many of the initial impressions I heard of the game were that it was a spiritual successor to Shenmue. Others would claim it was nothing like Shenmue. I eventually got around to Yakuza 3 during the incredible drought of games this summer. At first blush, this game is an open-world Action/Adventure game that is incredibly similar to Shenmue. It contains all of the elements of Shenmue (Story, Combat, QTEs, RPG/Experience system, Mini-Games), but puts a different amount of emphasis of each of those elements.

QUASI-REVIEW: Two Worlds II

Aug 11, 2011

Let me get this out of the way, this game is not fun.  The opening of the game took way too long with way too much dialogue with bad voice acting to boot.  The hero has this Christian Bale Batman raspyness, in monotone.  It made it hard to listen to anything that was being said which made the yawn inducing plot even less important.  It had something do with your sister being possessed and you fighting alongside orcs and a “sexy” female orc companion who the story writer obviously wants you to lay.  You can move around during conversations but you will easily find that you are limited.  You can walk a few steps away or run up to their face.  Games like Assassin’s Creed did this a whole lot better.  Although, it did lead to a humorous moment where I ended up on the top of a hanging light talking to an NPC.

QUASI-REVIEW: 1000 Heroz

Aug 10, 2011

The idea of 1000 Heroz intrigued me right off the bat – new content every day for the next 1000 days? Sounds tough to beat! When the offer to review 1000 Heroz hit my inbox, I couldn’t resist but start playing it. What I found was a simple, yet fun game, that kept me starting it up daily to see what new hero was awaiting.

QUASI-REVIEW: Hot Springs Story

Aug 07, 2011

Yes everyone, the fine folks at Kairosoft have another game to wet our management appetites.  Hot Springs story is very similar in strategy to Game Dev Story.  Run a Hot Springs, get customers, earn money to upgrade your springs, and do this all within 20 years.  When you start a new game you must think of a catchy name to bring in those customers. As with Game Dev Story, it’s only 14 characters long as is everything else you get to name in the game.  You can name your rooms here to help differentiate between them or name one the elderly bang bang room or something.  The old folks loved that room.
