KontrolFreek FPS Freek Black Ops III Launch Edition Review

Oct 16, 2015

KontrolFreek is back with a new pair of thumbstick extenders, this time another branded version for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops III, working with Treyarch throughout the process. This updated set of sticks differ from the original KontrolFreek FPS Freek Black Ops III Reveal Edition that was introduced earlier this year. As always, KontrolFreek completely understands their audience and desire to play first-person shooters with the utmost accuracy, and the FPS Freek Black Ops III Launch Edition is completely redesigned and delivers in all fronts.

The Legend of Legacy Review

Oct 09, 2015

When a new roleplaying games comes out, if it has a certain style or charm to it from a visual standpoint, that is usually enough to get me to play it. Roleplaying games encompass a huge part of my childhood and always bring back fond memories, along with new ones created.  The Legend of Legacy has solid art design and a fantastic looking world, but these things along don’t always make a game great.

Skylanders SuperChargers Review

Oct 08, 2015

I didn’t get a chance to play the original Skylanders games before. I knew it was a spin-off of Spyro the Dragon, involved using toys to play the game, and it just didn’t catch my eye at the time. “I have to use figures on a base to play?” just rubbed me the wrong way. Some time over the last few years though, I thought I should be fair and check it out. I’ve decided to give the series a chance as I found myself missing colorful games, and Skylanders looked to have that in plentiful abundance. Games that gave me that classic platforming, bouncy, happy worlds feeling back during the N64 and PlayStation era. So I sat there with Skylanders SuperChargers having only played some of Giants and Swap Force. When I walked away from my time with SuperChargers, I can sum it up in few words: a lot of fun and so many smiles.

Batman: Arkham Knight – GCPD Lockdown DLC Review

Oct 07, 2015

Just released last week is the final DLC for the month September, GCPD Lockdown. It is an “Arkham Episode”, instead of an AR Challenge to the likes of the pre-order DLC for Harley Quinn Story Pack and Red Hood Story Pack, and the post-release DLC, Batgirl: A Matter of Family. This DLC is disappointingly short, and does little to further the story as it is it takes place after the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is another case to do more, but ends up doing less.

Batman: Arkham Knight 2008 Tumbler Batmobile Pack Review

Oct 06, 2015

September has brought a lot of DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight. There’s been a couple of Crime Fighter Challenge Packs, the original Arkham Asylum skin, and the next Batmobile pack from the 2008 Christopher Nolan film, “The Dark Knight”. While the 1989 Batmobile Movie Pack failed to be something more, the 2008 Tumbler Batmobile Pack follows suit with its predecessor, making it even more troubling for the direction of these Batmobile Pack DLCs.

World of Tanks Review

Oct 05, 2015

World of Tanks has come a long way since its initial proper release back in 2011. This many years later, with several tournaments, Wargaming Leagues, and a steady flow of streamers on Twitch and YouTube, it’s easy to see why it is so popular. It being a free-to-play game certainly helps in its attainability. It’s a solid game with many iterations on itself to make for one of the best tense and exciting gaming experiences you can have in short bursts for long periods of time, at no obligated cost.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Review

Oct 02, 2015

It’s been 13 years since Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. A lot has changed between then and now: new skaters have gone pro, the once young skaters have gotten older, other Tony Hawk games decidedly not titled Pro Skater came out, and two console generations have passed. We finally have a sequel to that game from 2002. With Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, this is Robomodo’s attempt for this franchise to return to form. It unfortunately falls short of that with an online-focused social experience that ends up feeling disjointed. This isn’t for a lack of effort and real love for this series, it just doesn’t quite come together like it should.

SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Oct 01, 2015

Danish manufacturer, SteelSeries has been dominating the market, especially in the eSports scene. Now with a bevy of hardware across headsets, mice, keyboards, mouse pads, controllers, and even apparel. SteelSeries is a brand to be reckoned with. The SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard has been around for the better part of 2015, but is it one of the better keyboards you can have? Depends on your usage of this keyboard, but yes, it is.

Penarium Review

Sep 30, 2015

In a world filled with platforming indie retro games, sometimes you have to do something a little different. That could be in theme, gameplay, or both.  While retro style games are nothing new in today’s gaming market, sometimes a game comes along that just seems interesting, unique, and hard, if not completely originally. Come one, come all to the world of Penarium.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Review

Sep 29, 2015

Gears of War on the Xbox 360 was more than just a game, it was a cornerstone that made the Xbox 360 a console worth owning as well as set the bar for cover-based shooting, elimination-style multiplayer, and one of the best co-op experiences to have. This can also be said about Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One. The gritty and horror-themed game remains the same, as a ragtag group of soldiers (that end up friends) within Delta Squad are of a dwindling military doing whatever is necessary to wipe out a spreading invasion from the subterranean dwellers that have come to the surface known as the Locust, and save their planet of Sera. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition stumbles in a few places, but mostly is a smooth ride down memory lane.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN (PC) Review

Sep 28, 2015

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the last hurrah for creator, writer, and director Hideo Kojima. While certainly more stories might be told in the Metal Gear universe, Hideo Kojima will not be a part of it, following his departure from Konami. It’s a story that fills the missing chapter to Big Boss’ rise to villainy. But The Phantom Pain also serves another purpose, to deliver a different kind of Metal Gear game that is set in an open world, which has been unheard of in a game of this nature. It will no doubt be divisive among fans of the series for years to come, but one thing is for certain: it is unquestionably the best playing Metal Gear game in the series. It is also one of the best games of this year.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN Review

Sep 28, 2015

The Phantom Pain takes place in 1984 and continues the story of Big Boss following the events of Metal Gear Solid 3, Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes (other games in the series are set in the future beyond Phantom Pain). Will you get more out of the game’s story had you played the aforementioned games? Of course. But do you need to play those games to play Phantom Pain? Absolutely not. And I say this as a huge fan of Metal Gear who has played all of the mainline games of the series.

NHL 16 Review

Sep 24, 2015

We reviewed NHL 15 last year, it was a bare-bones offering that left fans cold. The game would get updates that would try to right the wrongs, but it didn’t quite fix things anyone wanted. The result of NHL 16 is essentially a do-over, but this is not NHL 15.5, it is very much NHL 16 and is proud of itself. The thrill of passing the puck, and getting that slapshot opposite of the goalie’s position, and that satisfying “ting!” off of the goalpost never gets old as this is the best on-ice action the series has seen in a good while.

Assault Android Cactus Review

Sep 23, 2015

Witch Beam has been working on Assault Android Cactus for some time, with the initial version released back in 2013 on Steam Early Access. That game has come a long way since then, as one would expect. The result of being inside the Steam Early Access oven for so long was, that it was allowed the time to properly rise and become one of the better dual-stick shooters I’ve played. Assault Android Cactus has an interesting story, unique characters, and balanced gameplay to have you coming back after completing the game’s initial levels.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance Review

Sep 22, 2015

The strategy RPG series known as Disgaea has been a huge surprise for me over the last few years. While I passed the original releases over due to my distaste for strategy role playing games, I realized the error of my ways when I received a review code for a prior entry a few years back. I had a blast with it and was excited to see how this series would translate to the PS4. Ultimately it’s still the essence of what makes the series Disgaea, for good or bad, and even approachable by beginners. So don’t be afraid, jump into the netherworld feet first.
