E3 2012: REKOIL

Stop me if you’ve heard this one, a competitive, class-based online first-person shooter. Well it features all the weapons you’d expect and are rotated a new weapon once you respawn from death. Really neat. Everyone playing was in a free-for-all and talking smack via headset over LAN. For being in Pre-Alpha it looked and played great, even the occasional missing gun from your hands couldn’t stop me from enjoying it. Expend all your ammo from the clip? *Click* *click* YOU need to reload, this isn’t gonna reload itself.

I only played in the Afghan environment, but it was very fast and looked great all through it.

I’m gonna keep my eye on this one.

E3 2012: SpyHunter

I played a little of this on the PS Vita and looks and plays like previous games on PS2/Xbox. You have four weapons at your disposal including oil slicks, rockets, cluster bombs, and flamethrowers. It’s light on story and physics but plays well and is fun to pick up and play, but I’m unsure of its longevity over time.

This is coming to Nintendo 3DS as well.

E3 2012: Pid

A neat indie platformer from some of the guys who made Bionic Commando: ReArmed running on the Unity engine. I got a Limbo story feel and limited color palette, but the comparison stops there. Pid is the story of Kurt who gets separated and drops underground and is all alone and must do the only thing, survive. In my demo, I got to use the beam power which only go in one direction and allow me to access new areas. Cameras have a cone of vision that kill you on sight and drones chase you when you are near. Using them quickly and efficiently keeps you out of harms way. Two beams can be dropped at one time to propel you and you can kill one to start another. Keys are placed in the world but slow you down and leave you to get killed faster. The areas change colors but are white and blue or white and red. Creating a clean but simple look I can appreciate. It’s hard, but not frustrating – at least that early in the game.

E3 2012: Lollipop Chainsaw

This game is stupid. It’s also awesome. I played an early part of the game and Juliet’s diamond crusted chainsaw and hacked zombies away. In a Dead Rising way, you come across survivors who need your help and must save them before their health dwindles and you must fight them instead. Save them and your job is done as they’re whisked away via helicopter to safety. Juliet has a light and heavy attack. The heavy being the chainsaw and can also use her Pom Poms to attack. Build up enough kills and you can use her Sparkle meter to get one-hit kills with the chainsaw. It’s an orgasm of rainbows, sparkles, and blood that is the most confusing enthralling experience. Camera controls are slow when using manually but are not an issue in combat. The HUD has a comic book feel that compliments the feel of the game.

E3 2012: Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012)

I only played the multiplayer of the game, and it feels a lot like Burnout Paradise’s online modes with the Activities. People meet up and you do jump challenges, speed traps, races, team races, and specific tasks. I’ll play or see the single player tomorrow to see what the story is. But the demos were all on PCs. The game is very urban, compared to Hot Pursuit’s vast and open backgrounds all outside of cities.

E3 2012: Forza Horizon

Developed by Playground Studios and published by Turn 10 Studios. They are using all the tech given to them by Turn 10. The game takes place all in Colorado, offering a wide range of locales: desert, long roads, windy roads, and even snow. No confirmation of actual weather, but we’ll see. There’s a day/night cycle that is an accelerated timescale.

So there wasn’t much to do or see here. Once I arrived in L.A. I checked into my hotel and then drove over to the Convention Center and picked up my Media Badge. The main floor was locked down but the West and South Halls were open to roam with or without badges. I saw a lot of games either pre-announced or maybe still under some wraps

And that’s all I can remember or can see in the photos I’ve taken. Tomorrow morning is the Press Conferences. I’ll be attending, Microsoft at 9:30am (Pacifc), then off to Ubisoft, and finishing at Sony. Unfortunately we are not attending EA’s conference.
