Following the quickest turnaround from the announcement to release, comes Hard Reset. A futuristic cyberpunk, robot-hating future, set in Bezoar City. I wrote about this game a month ago with my hands-on time with the preview build.
I’m as hardcore as they are when it comes to video game hockey. I’ve been playing the EA Sports NHL series since its inception in 1991 with NHL Hockey on the Genesis, and previous to that I was playing games such as Slap Shot, Superstar Ice Hockey and Face-Off! on the C64. So I’m definitely more critical about this series than most just because I have an intimate knowledge of all of the features that have been added every year and even features that have disappeared over the years.
The basic foundation of this game is that of its predecessor, tower defense and then some. You have a few choices when in the menu. You basically have single player, multiplayer, and mini-games. In Mini-Games you get a choice of a few types of local for the mini-game and in each local there is a different general goal that you have to accomplish. Choosing one of the later mini-games you are placed in a top down view of a base. Looking around you may notice that there is a large toy box which will serve as your base. There are also circular pads where you place “towers” to defend that toy box at all costs. Now you need to start placing your “towers” which in this game are machine gun emplacements, anti-tank bunkers, “napalm” throwers, mortar teams, anti-air turrets, and artillery machinery to keep the waves of Russian foot troops and vehicles from reaching your toy box.
A mercenary, a wizard, and an assassin walk into a bar…well, they don’t actually. But these three unsavory characters are thrown in a quest to stop the evil that’s been destroying and cursing the lands. Regardless of which characater you play as, this is very much the Wizard’s tale. As a Mercenary or Assassin, you still play to the tune of the Wizard and have no story of your own to tell.
During the process of me downloading Ugly Americans : Apocalypsegeddon, a couple of ideas of the game came to mind. First I taught that the game was going to be about a bunch of ugly-looking people eating a ton of burgers invading the universe. The other idea was that the game would be about just killing everything in sight and we would be playing a some ugly people. Well after I got to play the game for a bit I realised that my second idea was not really that far off. Ugly Americans is an animated cartoon show featured on the Comedy Network. The game features four of the main characters from the series: Mark, Callie, Leonard and Lt. Grimes.
I’m a casual football fan at best, one who actually learned the rules of football by playing Madden. Therefore, I’m not a hardcore Madden fan despite considering myself a sports gamer. Last year, Madden 11, was actually the first Madden I completely skipped out on in many years after not having a great experience with the demo. I was turned off by the Gameflow automated play calling system they introduced to make the game more accessible. When I’m playing defense, I usually don’t control any players, so by Gameflow taking control of the play calling out of my hand, it basically took the whole defensive side of the game out of my hand.
By the time Capcom released the last iteration of its Street Fighter II series in 1994 with Super Street Fighter II Turbo, the running joke was that Capcom didn’t know how to count to three. And then after Capcom finally got around to releasing Street Fighter III in 1997, many wish they hadn’t counted to three.
I’d be lying if I wasn’t immediately gripped just by seeing the title of this game: Space. Pirates. Zombies. This game hits the nostalgia funny bone hard (as if there was such a thing).
From Dust is quite the fun game. You play as this divine god, or what the natives call The Breath, an disembodied force that has the power to absorb the major elements of this world: water, dirt and lava. You distribute them to aid the natives in reaching magical totems to build villages and populate the lands. But it’s not all happy dappy super terrific days ahead for these poor natives. They have to deal with tsunami’s, drought, wildfires, floods, and raging lava.
It wasn’t easy for me to like Dragon Age Origins, but after giving it a lot of time, I’ve finally come around to it. The Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition package consists of the original Dragon Age Origins campaign, the Dragon Age: Awakening campaign, and the complete set of smaller DLC campaigns and quests that were released for the game.
From the start of the game – you are thrust into a world of chaos. Storytelling in Shadow Planet is kept to a minimum and told in little vignettes with the swelling orchestral music of Dimmu Borgir’s “Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse”. These scenes are somewhat calming despite what you are seeing on-screen. A scourge has struck a nearby planet, and it’s up to you to save it and your Homeworld.
Ridge Racer 3D has raced its way onto the Nintendo 3DS with it’s slick arcade action and 3d depth. The game is ridge racer to the core with it’s insane drifts, windy tracks, and races of up to seven competitors. As is standard in Ridge Racer, you’re driving around in fictional cars trying to win each race. The vehicles are classics from ridge racer past and to win here requires some much needed finesse of the drift. Sure you can get totally sideways but that won’t necessarily get you to first.
Shift 2 (presented by Need For Speed) has been a game which became a cut above the rest. It’s fully featured tuning system, the realistic physics and the exciting detail brought to you within the cockpit.
A new kind of apocalypse has occurred, named “The Calamity” and it has struck this beautiful watercolor world. You are the Kid – the sole survivor of the world that’s been shattered around you during your slumber. One thing that becomes apparent is that the narrator is not scripted in the sense that he says the same thing at the specific points of the game. Instead, the narrator details YOUR adventure as how you play it. With each movement or action, the Stranger as he comes to be known has something to say – each unique and not likely to repeat.
Splosion Man has finally been captured, and now Big Science is celebrating. But amongst the joy, an accident occurred, inadvertently creating a female version of the man who loves to splode. Ms Splosion Man starts off with her escape from the labs as she explores Big Science City. There’s little to no tutorial here, forcing you to learn as you go if you’re not familiar with the controls from the prior game.
