The resurrection of Shadow Warrior is one I never thought I’d see, and for it be so successful over the past nine years is a joy all its own. Flying Wild Hog was either predicting or echoing something in the first-person shooter genre, and always doing it better. With Shadow Warrior (2013) was DOOM (2016) before DOOM (2016). Shadow Warrior 2, this was a looter shooter like a mini-Borderlands, focusing on longevity and replayability. Now we have Shadow Warrior 3, a DOOM Eternal-like that’s more a continuation of the first game that chases its prior success. Unfortunately, Shadow Warrior 3 is a bit of a lo note for the series as Lo Wang and the gang go on a bloodthirsty yet ephemeral adventure.
Flying Wild Hog (Shadow Warrior and Hard Reset) have unveiled JUJU, a classic-style platformer for all ages with two-player cooperative play coming to PC and consoles later this year.
Danish investment firm, SDN Invest, has acquired Apogee Software, Ltd d/b/a 3D Realms (not to be confused with Apogee Software, LLC – publishers of Rise of the Triad) SDN Invest is part-owner and principal investor in Denmark-based game studio and Rise of the Triad developer, Interceptor Entertainment. Effective immediately, the new CEO of 3D Realms will be Mike Nielsen. Mr. Nielsen also serves as Chairman of the Board at Interceptor.
After intense negotiations between developer Flying Wild Hog and publisher Devolver Digitals shadowy Future Profits Division, the katana-filled and blood-soaked Shadow Warrior has been updated with an all-new and absolutely free Survival Mode. Budding katana masters will be able to slice, shoot, and crash through an incredible onslaught of raging enemies in three custom-built battle arenas in the games latest update.
Not content with just one super sweet update, Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital have partnered with Interceptor Entertainment and Apogee Software to bring some crossover magic to both Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad. Starting today, gamers will be able to use Rise of the Triads Excalibat as an alternative katana in Shadow Warrior and in turn step in to the shoes of Shadow Warriors Lo Wang in Rise of the Triads insane multiplayer modes.
Enjoy the free content, nerds, remarked Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. Dont forget my holiday cheer and festive giving of free stuff next year when I jack up prices on some face-melting indie games.
With the release of Rise of the Triad v1.3 – Interceptor Entertainment and Apogee Software have teamed up with Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog to add Shadow Warrior’s Lo Wang to Rise of the Triad to engage in ludicrous multiplayer with the H.U.N.T Team on San Nicolas Island!
Moreover, as a souvenir from his journey, Lo Wang will be bringing the legendary Excalibat from Rise of the Triad into Shadow Warrior starting today!
But wait, there’s more.
FIVE of the most popular custom maps from the Rise of the Triad community have been officially added to the game. The ROTT community is too based.
Developers Flying Wild Hog and Telltale Games, along with the closet zombies of Devolver Digital, are excited to announce an unprecedented cross promotion between Shadow Warrior and The Walking Dead. Starting today, Wang fans can wield the zombie slaying ice axe from The Walking Dead in Flying Wild Hog’s reimagined Shadow Warrior as an alternative to the iconic katana.
Independent developers RuneStorm (Viscera Cleanup Detail) and Flying Wild Hog (Shadow Warrior, Hard Reset) have been brought together via the Devolver Digital Cross Promotions Department to birth one of the more unique video game mash-ups ever – Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior. A free standalone mini-game, Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior takes place after Lo Wang’s first big katana battle against the yakuza in Shadow Warrior as a hapless janitor from Zilla Enterprises is tasked with cleaning up the bloody mess.
“When our team first saw Viscera Cleanup Detail on Steam Greenlight we absolutely loved with the idea of a person out there that had to clean up after big battles in FPS or horror games,” said Michal Szustak, Studio Head at Flying Wild Hog. “RuneStorm has done a tremendous job in taking a key scene from Shadow Warrior and recreating its aftermath to form a fun and hilariously frustrating mini-game using the Viscera Cleanup Detail mechanics.”
Budding viscera janitors will be able to use their custom mop, commercial grade plastic gloves, high tech viscera finder, and an industrial incinerator to clean up blood, guts, and the occasional dismembered arm. Plan your strategy wisely or risk tracking bloody footprints around your clean floors or knocking over a bucket of guts on what was previously a pristine flight of stairs! Perform your job skillfully and find yourself rewarded with two handsome achievements to hang in your locker.
“This clear exploitation of two talented independent developers is really a landmark moment in my career and I can’t wait to see the immense amount of personal wealth I stand to gain from this financially driven marketing stunt,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. “Oh, Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior is free? In that case you can all eat my butt. Eat it right up.”
Despite the generic-sounding name, Shadow Warrior is actually a reimagining and reboot of the 1997 classic from 3DRealms, which came after the release of the mega-hit, Duke Nukem 3D. This Shadow Warrior, coincidentally, follows the release of the mega-dud, Duke Nukem Forever. The good news, is that Shadow Warrior stops following Duke Nukem at this point.
Developers Flying Wild Hog and Volition, along with the publisher illuminati of Devolver Digital and Deep Silver, are excited to announce an unprecedented cross promotion between Shadow Warrior and Saints Row IV. Through this groundbreaking show of absurdity, owners of Saints Row IV on Steam will unlock the legendary ‘Penetrator’ weapon in Flying Wild Hog’s reimagined Shadow Warrior as a powerful-but-elegant alternative to the traditional katana. Yep, read that again.
“I’m sorry I can’t really hear you over the sound of all that money being thrown at screens around the world,” said Fork Parker, Devolver Digital CFO. “And I don’t know what to tell you other than you can now wield a giant purple dildo from Saints Row IV in Shadow Warrior. There’s your headline, nerds.”
Again, not sure what else to tell you all that hasn’t been summed up already. If you own Saints Row IV on Steam and purchase Shadow Warrior, you can literally use the big purple Penetrator in place of a katana in Shadow Warrior to sever the heads off of demons. We know, and yet we can’t really believe it ourselves.
Shadow Warrior is set to launch via Steam for PC on September 26, 2013. Saints Row IV is currently available for Steam, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
The composers that make up The Witcher series OST: Krzysztof Wierzynkiewicz, Michał Cielecki, and Adam Skorupa are behind The Shadow Warrior OST.
The full soundtrack is included in the Special Edition of Shadow Warrior which your readers/audience can get here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/233130/.
