Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus Review

Sep 26, 2014

The HD PVR 2 has seen many iterations, but the latest is a beast that is known as the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus. It’s a mouthful to say, but an absolute pleasure to work with.

Forza Horizon 2 Review

Sep 25, 2014

I want you to take a minute and think of the best looking game on the Xbox One. Go ahead, I’ll give you a minute. Waiting… Waiting… Did you come up with one? Ok. Now, move that game down a peg because you’ve just found your new number one.

Defense Grid 2 Review

Sep 23, 2014

You may recall the Defense Grid 2 Kickstarter being something of a failure before a private investor got involved to ensure the funding was successful. The second installment of Defense Grid does not disappoint, this is a proper sequel that builds on what made the original so great. There’s some new twists to the formula, but in the end this is still tower defense – a damn fine one at that.

Anomaly 2 (PS4) Review

Sep 16, 2014

Originally planned for earlier this year, Anomaly 2 is making its PS4 debut after a slight delay. The result is the same game that released early last year, but for those who missed out, or have been anxiously waiting, are in for some visual splendor and a challenging game of tower offense.

Iron Fisticle Review

Sep 16, 2014

I have no idea what a “Fisticle” is, but I do know what “Iron” is. It’s how hard Iron Fisticle‘s level of challenge is. With no difficulty to choose from, the game can often be intimidating. But it’s dastardly fun, and a project over four years in the making. It shares similarities with other arena shooters of past and present, but this monster-themed shooter stands out with the inclusion of co-op and a visually appealing palette.

Train Fever Review

Sep 11, 2014

All over the world, the advent of the locomotive created an explosion in creating trans-national travel speedy compared to other means, back in the 1800s. In PC gaming, train simulations have recaptured these historic events by allowing you total control. After a successful Gambitious campaign, Train Fever was allowed to be made, and is dubbed an “unofficial remake of Transport Tycoon“. Train Fever is a simulation game that is nation-agnostic and allows you to build up a railroad monopoly from scratch.

Madden NFL 15 Review

Sep 05, 2014

♪ Defense, defense / we want the ball / we want the ball hey ♫ This year’s Madden is where defense comes to play. After some harsh criticism for what was supposed to be not only the next-generation debut of the series on new consoles, but a celebration of 25 years of Madden, Madden NFL 25 was met with disappointment. Madden NFL 15 is a redo of sorts, with a heavier focus on development for what is now current-generation systems and major changes to the tried-and-true, the results are overwhelmingly positive and a reinvigoration for the series.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Review

Sep 05, 2014

Welcome back to the world of Minecraft, this time on the shiny new Xbox One. Everything has changed, the world is in stunning 4k and the textures are super photo realistic. Now wake up, who are we kidding, it’s Minecraft people.

Runers Review

Sep 02, 2014

Runers is a dungeon crawler that encourages experimentation and lots of replayability, in similar fashion to the likes of The Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, and Desktop Dungeons. These games share common threads: they have permadeath, roguelike elements, and arena combat. You’ll circle-strafe around enemies while firing magical projectiles as you reduce their health bar to nothing like a spell-casting badass.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition Review

Aug 26, 2014

The Diablo franchise has been absent on consoles since the first incarnation on the original PlayStation. Since then, it has been PC only. Diablo III released to the previous generation of consoles last year. And so, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition is mouthful to say, but contains a compilation of an original game and its recent expansion, with a whole host of changes exclusive to the console that PC players will be begging for.

Metro Redux Review

Aug 19, 2014

With just over a year separating the release of Metro Redux with Metro: Last Light, one has to wonder what makes this release so special. Firstly, it contains both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in a bundle. It might be easy to think that it’s just Metro 2033 as an HD remake and a simple re-release of Metro: Last Light for a quick cash-in to go along with it. This is not so. Many significant, substantial changes have been made to remaster each game that warrants the purchase, even if you’ve played recently.

Risen 3: Titan Lords Review

Aug 15, 2014

Piranha Bytes’ heritage of making deep and expansive RPGs somehow got lost over the years. Their desire of returning to their roots for Risen 3: Titan Lords does not go unfulfilled. The European developer delivers on all their promises to make an enjoyable, robust, and even a bit strange of an RPG that imposes no rush on progressing through the story in a timely manner.

Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition Review

Aug 14, 2014

Being a real-life surgeon requires years of schooling and practice alongside a steady hand. Surgeon Simulator: Anniversary Edition doesn’t need any of that. Malpractice is the name of the game. Crack ribs with a hammer, cut a heart out with a hacksaw, and free kidneys with a laser. These are the tools of the Surgeon Simulator trade, making for a hilarious and somewhat stressful take on something serious as surgery.

Sacred 3 Review

Aug 12, 2014

The Sacred series is likely not a household name when compared to the likes of Diablo. It filled a very specific void in the hearts of those who appreciated a deep action RPG. There is no such void now, and the original series’ developers are no more. So when Deep Silver went to resurrect this dormant series, it was going to be interesting as to what the result would be. While a much different game, Sacred 3 is fine in its own right, is not the Sacred you remember or even want.

Lovely Planet Review

Aug 11, 2014

Don’t let the cute visuals deceive you. Within lies a difficult, and sometimes cruel game. Much like Australia’s adorable koala, can be mean at a moment’s notice. This is the same for Lovely Planet, a speedrunner that you will love with all the cuteness on display, but then, it will turn on you.
