When the people behind who made Shogo, No One Lives Forever, and F.E.A.R. leave Monolith to form a new studio, you pay attention. Betrayer is Blackpowder Games’ first title, an atmospheric first-person adventure. Sounds familiar. Shipwrecked, you embark on finding the settlements in the “New World”, located on the Virginia coastline in 1604. Quickly though, you discover that things are not what they should be.
The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Luftrausers means… something. Luft in German is “air”, and Raus is German for “out”. So “Airouters”, I guess? Or something with clearing out the sky? I don’t know. All I know is this game has me “araused” in the nearly four hours I’ve put into it, and I’m ready to go back for more.
Ironclad has been developing Sins of a Dark Age for some time now. Sins of a Dark Age is Ironclad Games’ medieval fantasy, set in an alternate universe to Sins of a Solar Empire, focusing on MOBA-style combat and leveling.
Corporate Lifestyle Simulator is less a simulator and more a violent fantasy extension of “Office Space” by way of Hotline Miami, but instead located in Canada – you know, where all the big zombie outbreaks happen.
The Grim Reaper is sad and lonely. What is Death to do with oneself? Why not start zombified humanitarian outreach program to convert the shambling undead into respectable citizens? In this desperation, it’s all for the sake of friendship and to be liked. Project Deadlings begins with experimentation, and provides Deadlings with it’s charm, deceptively dark overtones, and refreshing mix of strategy and action.
Today, Community Manager (of sorts) for Activision, Dan Amrich announced that he has departed Activision and the OneOfSwords brand he created, which Activision also owns.
Being a thief, a good one anyway, requires a great amount of skill. They must use stealth, generally combined with a lack of violence to steal items, and disappear unnoticed. And following these guidelines while playing THIEF is where you get the most enjoyment. Straying from this format does not penalize you or stop you from progressing, but instead makes for clumsy combat and unyielding frustration in which you revert to the last save point to undo what went wrong. This is the trial-and-error gameplay you’d come to expect in a stealth game, and from THIEF, but isn’t as much fun as it is a slog.
TowerFall Ascension feels like a game ripped from a different time. From the pixelated art, to the sound, and even the 4:3 presentation. There was nothing like this game from the era it represents, but it fills the void in our modern hearts.
Infected Planet is a squad-based, real-time strategy game with tower defense elements set in a universe similar to “Starship Troopers”, sans the camp and unfortunate lack of Casper Van Dien. The foreboding sense of being overwhelmed at any point is the great dynamic between the fast-paced action and strategic nature of suppressing the enemies spewing from their hives.
As a kid, Chip’s Challenge back on Windows 3.11, challenged me greatly. The spiritual successor, with the help of the game’s creator and now namesake to develop it, Chuck’s Challenge was funded on Kickstarter. Now, it’s here challenging me just like it’s predecessor did all those years ago.
