The sim game genre has expanded quite a bit over the years. We’ve had planes, trains, mechanics, warehouse workers, buses, and now home repair. It was bound to happen eventually, and here we are.
This game has a “quack” button. That is all, review over, buy the game now.
Blazing Beaks is a fun roguelite dungeon crawler by Applava. You’ll get to choose one of 8 armed avians to adventure with, and explore randomly generated levels with random loot drops. It’s your standard fare when it comes to Rougelites but does it do enough to keep things fun?
The Earth Defense Force series has dug itself into the B-Tier genre of games. It’s campy, it’s rough, it’s janky, and it’s buggy; quite literally. But for the fans of the series, each new release brings excitement and joy. It’s like those of us in the Dynasty Warriors camp who are excited for new releases, even if it’s their not the best. Just like Dynasty Warriors, D3 Publisher has kept the formula the same for many years. But with Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain developer Yuke’s was to take the series in new directions.
I’m one of the few that enjoy Assassin’s Creed III. I consider it one of my favorite Assassin’s Creed titles sans Origins / Odyssey. For a frame of reference, I disliked II and Brotherhood. So it was quite a pleasant surprise when I heard that Ubisoft had announced the Assassin’s Creed III Remaster, but does it live up to my memories of seven years ago? Does it fix issues that plagued the game initially?
Back in 2012, a fun little cooking game made its way onto Steam. To play it was hectic but rewarding. Its name, Cook, Serve, Delicious!, and it captivated my gaming heart. As crazy as this series can get during a single day in the game, it’s was such a great way for me to unwind. With 2017’s sequel making its way to the Nintendo Switch, it gives me another reason to turn the lights back on in my restaurant’s kitchen.
Switch ‘N’ Shoot feels as if it came straight out of the golden age of coin-op arcade cabinets. I could easily have seen myself playing this exact game at my local arcade in the late ’80s or even at a Chuck E’ Cheese’s in the early ’90s. It’s got that classic look and has that addictive gameplay to boot. It falls into the same vein as those arcade classics that are simple to understand but difficult to master, and it’s found a home on the Nintendo Switch.
Car Mechanic Simulator has been around a few years on the PC market with the latest incarnation being Car Mechanic Simulator 18. It’s your standard fare simulation game as you run a business and earn money to keep the lights on. To my genuine surprise, a Nintendo Switch port is out and even its flaws, it’s not the worst thing I’ve played.
Let’s face it, Newport News TV has the best motion graphics thanks to Ed (give them a Like 👍). Aside from real-life obligations and settling into married life, Ed played a lot of games this year. The best ones in his opinion are ordered and numbered for your reading convenience.
The Overcooked 2 – Surf ‘n’ Turf DLC brings more of the same zany fun you’d expect to have in an Overcooked game, adding a sprinkle more challenge to the mix. If you’re a fan of the series or just enjoy screaming at your friends, the Surf ‘n’ Turf DLC is right for you.
Last year Eden Games attempted to bring a semi-simulation racing game to the Switch; with mixed results. With its mobile roots being very obvious, it wasn’t a title you wanted to spend $60 bucks on. In an awfully quick turn around time, Eden Games have returned to the world of Gear.Club Unlimited with a sequel. It’s unfortunate that the game is no better than last year.
2016’s Hitman was my Game of the Year that year and with good reason, it was fun, you could get creative, and there was a lot to do. Hitman was labeled Season 1, teasing people of a Season 2 of content; none of that transpired. This was a blessing in disguise though, as the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, they’ve all followed the same basic formula. Pick your loadout, travel to a location, track your target, and dispose of them. In the newer iterations of Hitman, this means as loudly or as silently as you’d like. You’ll score more points with a silent takedown of course, but the big fancy loud ones can be just as self-rewarding. It’s great that you can make this game as challenging as you’d like and still feel like the bad-ass assassin that Agent 47 is.
The tycoon genre has had many different themes over the years, like Theme Parks and Zoos. Megaquarium takes those elements and gives you control over an Aquarium. If you’re in the market for a fresh fish in the genre, Megaquarium makes for a great catch.
Jack is back! Again; for the fifth time. But it’s not just some re-hash, the Jackbox Party Pack 5 brings some great new hits to the Jackbox collection.
Monster Games is back with their newest NASCAR Heat title. This year they’ve overhauled the Career mode, which is something I’ve been longing for since the EA NASCAR days. NASCAR Heat 3 delivers a fun time but not without some hiccups.
