I’ve played a lot of games since I was born in 1983. It’s safe to say, I’ve been a super-agent taking down villains, jumped as an Italian plumber, and even soared the skies as a bird. My background of gaming experiences is vast, but I’ve never quite experience a game like Albino Lullaby and while it fits into a genre that is pretty popular these days, everything else about it is weird as hell.
The base game Helldivers released back in March, and was met with positive responses, as many of Arrowhead Game Studios’ games have done in the past. Though, the game has friendly fire always turned on, making it an experience you have to be careful to not shoot or kill your teammate. Since then, the game has received updates, DLC packs, and expansions. Now, Helldivers Super-Earth Ultimate Edition is available and includes all of these in one pack. How is the Helldivers experience in this super collection? (It’s good, really good actually.)
Death Ray Manta has graced iOS and the indie gaming circuit on for PC for several years, and has been part of all sorts of indie bundles. Now it has landed on Steam with the appropriately titled Death Ray Manta SE. The “SE” is never explained, so I can assume it is for Steam Edition, Special Edition, or me, Scott Ellison. This twin-stick shooter is nothing short of pure bliss and will whisk away the time before you know it.
When you get an email about a game that’s supposed to be hard and with PR laughing at your feeble attempts to escape their prison of madness, call me intrigued. I haven’t ever heard of I Can’t Escape: Darkness, but apparently the original debuted on Newgrounds as a flash game in 2013 and with some pretty high praise. The developers decided to take this core idea and make it better, and now we’re presented with a enhanced or redone version called: I Can’t Escape: Darkness, and it will torment you.
Buckle up that 5-point harness you’ve attached to the couch, you know that one your significant other yelled to you about the other day. Slip on those racing gloves you bought on a whim from the local auto parts store and confidently say “Xbox On” because Forza Motorsport 6 has arrived. Those coming off Forza Horizon 2 should not compare Forza Motorsport 6 to that, this game stands on its own as the best Motorsport title in the series
Tenda Technology’s AC15 router has not only impressed, but has surpassed my expectations and is incredibly affordable without any notable compromises to the technology of being a dual-band AC1900 router, which has an output of 1 gigabit per second throughput. The 802.11ac wireless network band has been around for a couple of years, but the routers available have been priced very much on the high side, more than the typical consumer is used to. Tenda Technology may not be a household name, but it will be one you remember.
When someone asks you to review a game that has been ported from a mobile platform, features a fuzzy blue character with a mustache named Leo, and only lasts a handful of hours – one begins to worry. It’s not to say that phone games can’t be good on consoles, but there is a particular stigma with those types of titles and while it may ring true at times, it’s best to never judge a game by its cover… or its release platform. That being said, I apologize for thinking this about you Leo as you have proved me totally wrong.
Warner Bros has a lot of love for the open-world games they publish. Each of their recent games have a defining characteristic that separates itself from the others in the catalogue. For Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, it was the nemesis system, in Batman: Arkham Knight it was exploring the streets of Gotham in the Batmobile, and in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt it was the seemingly never-ending stream of quality quests. In Mad Max, it is about car combat and the adventures of picking yourself up after being left with nothing, albeit a shallow experience when compared to its contemporaries.
Portal was a game that fundamentally changed the FPS genre into a space where your mind become a more powerful tool then your bullets. Of course with the critical success of such a new idea, many games have followed suit with new ideas and takes on mind bending puzzles. What if a game took those fundamental ideas and core concepts, threw in a little bit of Saw and Cube movie flavor? This is Magnetic in a nutshell… or metal shell as I should say.
The Corsair VOID Wireless Special Edition Yellowjacket is a vibrant, colorful statement among headsets of its ilk. The VOID series comes in many different flavors, from USB to Wireless, and all of them have RGB lighting for a personal touch. Corsair designed this new line-up to stand out, and the VOID Wireless Special Edition Yellowjacket certainly does just that (though, there is a toned down carbon black variant of the same design). No matter what, the Corsair VOID will get you noticed, all while providing clear audio on any system you have it connected to.
One Piece has had a plethora of videogame adaptations. Based on the hit anime and manga, we see our favorite band of rag tag pirates on the hunt for treasure and adventure. Prior games released with the franchiser range from adventure, role playing, and action games. One Piece Warriors release a few years back and admittedly started off a little rough, with 2 bringing greater justice to the franchise. Now being at iteration number 3, can an action hack and slash improve even more? I’d definitely say ‘yes’.
Can you have a great sports title without the pro teams? If this question was asked in the early years of gaming the answer would be yes and games like R.B.I. Baseball and Tecmo Bowl come to mind. Although looking at things these days usually produces a different answer, so it’s rare to see a non licensed sports game let alone a fun to play one. Super Mega Baseball’s is up at bat and there’s already a full count, which way does it go?
From the outside looking in, it may be hard to determine how meaningful the changes are to a yearly franchise, especially those in the sports genre. But the folks at EA Tiburon are always hard at work to improve the game of American football. This year’s focus on receiving and even the versatility of a quarterback’s throw, makes Madden NFL 16 another fantastic entry that shouldn’t be missed. It’s a flagship series that doesn’t allow itself to get stale from year to year, and Madden NFL 16 is no exception.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue was a pretty quiet release for Ubisoft. The PC version only came out in March, four months after its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts released. It wasn’t given much of a marketing push, but it turns out it’s a highly enjoyable game that continues the mythos of Assassin’s Creed in interesting ways, ways you shouldn’t miss. It’s a wonderful blend of the best mechanics of both Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and it wouldn’t be far off to refer to this as a “Black Flag 2” of sorts.
The N series only comes once a generation. Originating on web browsers using Flash, followed by the sequel N+ on XBLA, and now N++ on PlayStation 4. With 8 years separating N+ and N++, this long awaited sequel does not disappoint. The controls are tight and responsive, as you’d expect. Metanet Software has honed their craft of making dangerous arenas for you to move your stick figure ninja. N++ is a game where minutes turn to hours.
