How many franchises can you name that have lasted as long as Dynasty Warriors? If you go by the number of mainline games to be released, there aren’t many to list. So with over 21 years under its belt and 8 mainline sequels before it, Omega Force and Koei-Tecmo are adding one more to their own Dynasty, Dynasty Warriors 9. With number 9 comes some changes to the formula that may entice some new players to pick it up while not alienating fans of the series.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is more of the same that we’ve come to expect from the TT Games gang. It’s the quirky personality paired with the simple but fun gameplay. It’s the same formula used for years now, basic combat, environmental puzzles, huge casts of characters, co-op play, lots and lots of silly puns, utilizing character abilities to progress, and more. The game is like comfort food, you know what to expect and you know you’re going to enjoy it regardless.
Following a successful Kickstarter, led to further success when releasing onto multiple platforms in 2014. Now in 2018, Tribute Games brings a free update to Mercenary Kings with a healthy dose of additions and improvements to quality of life. Tribute Games has re-energized Mercenary Kings in the form of Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition. This is a hybrid game of platforming, shooting, and RPG that’s not to be missed.
SteamWorld Dig has resurfaced, and it has made its way onto the Nintendo Switch. The game does so, cleanly and wonderfully. By design, SteamWorld Dig is completely unchanged in its transition to the new console, so it is the same game as the other versions in every way. While I would have liked to see new features, touch controls, or enhancements from SteamWorld Dig 2, it just isn’t needed. And even though there’s nothing new to be found here, what’s here is a tightly packed game that put Image & Form on the map. SteamWorld Dig is a treasure all its own.
A person who attacks cherished beliefs or institutions is known as an Iconoclast. And in Iconoclasts there are many, and they are seen as rebellious, and of dissent. However, they are fighting for what’s right. There’s more going on than you’re led to believe, and is really satisfying from a gameplay and narrative sense, and with its impeccable visuals and complimentary soundtrack, makes the game so easy to recommend.
Flight Sim World is the continuation of the Flight Simulator series made famous by Microsoft. Developer and publisher, Dovetail Games obtained the rights to the series in 2014. The transition from Steam Early Access to full releases was made possible due to the small team’s dedication to the game, and feedback during the early access phase. Flight Sim World is by and large completed, but there’s work to be done still. As it stands, Flight Sim World is a bit light on aircraft, but provides scenarios and situations that no other flight sim is able to deliver.
Railway Empire evokes nostalgia for games like Chris Sawyer’s Railroad Tycoon and Sid Meier’s Railroads! And developer Gaming Minds Studios. It’s unfortunate to say that despite the looks and sounds, is a game that doesn’t quite reach the end of the line before it runs out of steam. Railway Empire is a great starting game for those unfamiliar with the genre, but those looking for something deeper will have to go back to the classics. However, Railway Empire still captures the essence of running a train company like some sort of tycoon that will enthrall many.
Venerable developer 10tons Ltd has been doing the twin-stick shooter thing for a while now, and doing it well with variations on the formula that offers a fresh take with each release. Tesla vs Lovecraft is no different, and while it is a lot like what’s come before, it has a renewed sense of energy towards each element of the game. Tesla vs Lovecraft features a great assortment of weapons, perks, and abilities to keep you coming back thanks to its enduring replayability.
The Deer God is composed of elements from a wide array of games, but the sum total of these pieces is a curiously unique title that uses this sense of familiarity to set you at ease just long enough for you to become bewildered by your in-game predicament and surroundings. This is thematically appropriate with the game’s core conceit in which you, a hunter, are stricken down and via mystical encounter laced with pseudo-druidic tones, are subsequently reborn as a deer tasked with a journey of understanding and (purportedly) self-redemption.
X-Plane 11 is Laminar Research’s latest outing with the series. After feedback over the previous entry, they have made changes to the user interface and usability to make it one of the best interfaces in the series history, but of all flight simulators. X-Plane 11 is also highly detailed, and accessible to novice pilots and gamers alike. Though, veterans will find a lot of depth that puts on-par with real-life training. X-Plane 11 is exemplary, and exciting with its breadth of content and realistic representation of our world and aircraft on an unprecedented scale.
Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator comes from IPACS, a German developer who previously released Aerofly FS and Aerofly RC that lay the foundation of what makes this such a solid game. As such, Aerofly FS 2 is a much improved game over its predecessors and has shown that the developers have learned a lot with each game. Aerofly FS 2 may be a bit basic in presentation and execution, but it is highly enjoyable for newcomers, and veterans of flight sims alike.
Sky Force Reloaded is the follow-up to Sky Force Anniversary, and has been adapted from phones to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The result is another qualified hit that’s made the transition, with an enjoyable loop that will have you coming back for more. Infinite Dreams strikes a balance between mobile and home system with Sky Force Reloaded that feels genuine. And as such, Sky Force Reloaded is a unique game that stands out from its contemporaries that’s a small game with big value.
I’ve been building model kits for years and they’ve been an enjoyable way to pass the time on a less than busy day. Painting parts, gluing and building, then finally admiring my handiwork. In the world of plastic model kits, Revell is a huge name and they’ve always been able to cater to all different skill groups ever since their creation in 1945. With their new Halo Model Kits, they’ve been able to add the detail a fan wants with the ease of building that you’d come to expect from a SnapTite kit.
When OPSeat reached out to me to review this, I hadn’t ever considered these chairs before. Sure, I’ve seen them on streams and recorded videos, but I never thought much of it. I of course thought my office chair was more than sufficient for what I was doing in them. Without being hyperbolic, there is no way I’m going back standard office chairs for PC gaming again. The Master Series PC Gaming Chair sets a great first impression that never waivers, and most importantly has improved my posture and back pain. OPSeat is a company to put your attention towards, as they are watching your six with great comfort.
