NASCAR Heat: Evolution Review

Back in the early 2000’s there were two main forces when it came to Stock Car Auto Racing video games, Papyrus’ NASCAR Racing series and EA’s yearly NASCAR titles. Monster Games lit a fire in the genre with NASCAR Heat and cemented itself as a name to be reckoned with. I remember the original titles leaning more “arcadey” than the semi-sim of EA’s titles and the full-sim of Papyrus’, giving those who just wanted fast cars and lots of passing something they could easily sit down and play. Now Monster Games have returned with Dusenberry Martin Racing to reignite that spark with NASCAR Heat: Evolution.

Microsoft has a lot to prove to their audience for new PC releases. A lot of gaming bridges were burned with “Games for Windows”, and now Microsoft is pushing their “Play Anywhere” initiative. This one is hoping to re-invigorate the initiative where if you buy on Xbox One or PC, you own the game on both platforms. Now comes the time for one of the year’s most anticipated releases for either platform, Forza Horizon 3 to be put under the spotlight of examination on PC.

LucidSound is maybe a headset company that hasn’t come up in conversation when finding out “what’s a good gaming headset that doesn’t break the bank?”. LucidSound has released their LS30 earlier this year and more people should know about it. Though, the LucidSound LS30 Gaming Headset doesn’t even look like a gaming headset. Usually this is a sign of caution, but isn’t actually the case here. So where is the RGB lighting? Where is the accented colors? Oh, well that’s because LucidSound is a company that doesn’t settle for conventional. It may sound like PR-speak, but LucidSound has swerved around the garish headsets we’re used to, instead delivering on best-in-class audio and looks that will catch your eye, but not burn it.

Forza Horizon 3 busts out of the gate in providing unparalleled freedom to explore, race, and customize. Forza Horizon 3 is the perfect game for people who maybe aren’t car aficionados, but is the type of game that could make them one. The party that is the Horizon Festival is one that rivals the hardcore that attend EDC in Las Vegas every year. The unmitigated fun found in Forza Horizon 3 is bereft of police, negativity, and an inability to slow down. You can lose yourself in Forza Horizon 3 for hours constantly saying “okay, one more race.”

Event[0] is a student project turned full game that explores relationships, emotions, space, and solitude in a thought-provoking first-person exploration game set in a retro/future solar system. Event[0] even presents some interesting moral and ethical challenges when developing an AI for real-world applications. As a game, it comes up short in terms of length, and ultimately hurts the relationship-building it promises. Event[0] has a unique gameplay element, and that is being able to type in phrases to communicate with an AI to get home – which is perhaps the most personal aspect of the game.
PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2 Review

PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2 is the official sequel to the XBLA original in 2007, and while we saw a “DX” quasi-sequel in 2011, it was everything from the original PAC-MAN Championship Edition and and improved greatly on those systems. PAC-MAN Championship Edition took risks with moving away from a pure survival for high-score focused gameplay and instead focused on a more strategic type of play for high-scores. PAC-MAN Championship Edition 2 doesn’t quite take the same risks, doesn’t have a graphical leap with new consoles, and instead plays it safe with “more of the same” in delivering fast and energetic gameplay, at a cost of feeling fresh.

♫ He’s a god eater ♫ is a singing joke I made when I first booted up God Eater 2, Rage Burst. I knew little about this game aside from the name, that it was a sequel to God Eater, and that these titles were originally on Vita. I’ll say right away, if games like Monster Hunter are not an idea of a perfect night of gaming, then stay fast, as God Eater 2 is more than likely not going to win anyone over otherwise.

Mother Russia Bleeds is a brawler with a conscience, has a thirst for blood that spills like in Hotline Miami, and behaves like hyper-violent Streets of Rage. Though, Mother Russia Bleeds often makes you pause at the actions you’re undertaking: injecting drugs, merciless beatdowns, and whether the cause is a just one. Le Cartel Studio have injected the side-scrolling beat’em up with a freshness that only air fresheners could provide.
Livelock Review

Looking at Livelock, you might see open-world elements of Alienation, Helldivers, or even Diablo, but that’s not what the game is. Livelock is a much more linear and focused game, the action is relentless, and there’s a constant need to have you smash your way through each level, done with the greatest of ease. And unless you intend to take every character in Livelock to the max level, replayability is a bit lower than expected for this top-down, twin-stick shooter.
Nightmares from the Deep 3: Davy Jones Review

Nightmares from the Deep 3: Davy Jones is the conclusion of the Nightmares of the Deep series, with the stakes being raised to new heights, and Davy Jones sinking to new depths in terms of how far he will go to get what we he wants. While it doesn’t go as many places as previous entries, it is the best looking game to date, as well as the best playing, introducing variety at every turn, and adding in extra things to find along the way.
Armello – The Usurpers Hero Pack DLC Review

The Usurpers Hero Pack for Armello adds four new characters: Magna, Elyssia, Ghor, and Sargon to increase the roster from eight to twelve heroes, which adds four more of each clan type. Armello is a game that has a solid roster of characters to play as amongst friends and strangers, but the additions here make them worthwhile but not so much necessary.

Attack on Titan is a franchise I’ve heard a lot about. I only know the basic core idea of humans, struggling to survive, fighting against giant creatures. These naked beings that roam the land, eating people, seem to have come from nowhere and only leave death in their path. Honestly it sounds messed up and it is. Humans have found ways to fight them and erected walls to stop them, but the battles go on. The game sets this up all rather well for new people to the series and veterans will know exactly what to expect story wise, but what about the gameplay?
Overcooked Review

Overcooked is a game that seemingly came out of nowhere. I had heard very little of it up until a week or two before its release. The videos don’t do the game justice though, it is a genuine treat.

Kingston’s HyperX brand has been a prominent force amongst eSports and competitive gaming circles, but it is one of those things where it seems like these products are built for those players. In actuality, it’s for anyone and everyone to buy and use them as well. Sure, they are good for competitions and needing to hear everything to be successful, but the HyperX Cloud Revolver is one headset for all. It would be reductive to classify HyperX’s Cloud Revolver headset as “just a stereo headset”, because its clarity is a cut above what anyone is doing with headsets right now. The only exception is its price tag and lack of portability. This is a gaming headset that works with any device you plug it into, and will unearth sounds you hadn’t heard before.
