I reviewed Gear.Club Unlimited 2 over a year ago for the Switch, and it was not a great game. Navigating menus is a drag with most of your time spent waiting. Plus, cars drive like they have a pole stabbed through the middle, one of the greatest sins in a racing game. But there were some bright spots where you could see potential improvement. All that’s to say that the Porsche Edition doesn’t change any of that.
Milestone has the dirt bike racing market cornered. With the MXGP series all about motocross, a discipline with longer, wider courses during the summer months. And the Monster Energy Supercross series encompasses supercross, a discipline with shorter, narrower courses over the spring months. With Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 3, Milestone demonstrates that they continue to expand and improve the core experience in meaningful ways, making it the best entry to date.
I have a crippling fear of heights.
I reviewed The Climb, a VR game focused on climbing mountains and cliff sides high above the earth below.
And I absolutely loved it.
Arkanoid has seen many variations over the years, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen anything new. The creator of Desktop Dungeons at QCF Design gives us a new take on Arkanoid with Drawkanoid. As the name implies, you draw the paddle to be used to redirect your attacks, setting specific angles to get the desired effect. Drawkanoid takes block breaking in a refreshing, exciting direction that works incredibly well to kick off 2020 in colorful style.
Sometimes a man is just a man. Sometimes a game is just a game. But sometimes, things are more than what they seem on the surface.
Such is true of both Stranger and the game that bears his namesake, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD. Admittedly, most games from the mid 2000’s era don’t age particularly well, but most games from that era weren’t forward-looking, successfully experimental titles that carved out their own space and became something truly memorable in their own right. Stranger’s Wrath is certainly no stranger to being ported to new systems, but getting to see the HD remaster running unrestrained, in its full glory on the Nintendo Switch hardware is truly an exciting spectacle. The Switch release of the game delivers everything that made the original such a great experience, wrapped up in a highly performant package that lets you focus on reliving your older memories, or discovering the world of Stranger’s Wrath for the first time.
When E-WIN reached out to me to review one of their chairs, I was elated. You see these kinds of chairs everywhere if you watch gaming-related streams or videos, and even in some non-gaming content. The truth is, they’re not a gimmick. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and ultimately have a singular goal: comfort. In that, E-WIN achieves that with the E-WIN Champion Series Ergonomic Computer Gaming Office Chair with Pillows. But it does more, it corrects your posture and does so with firm pillows that cradle to support you for long sessions of sitting. You can’t lose buying E-WIN.
Farming Simulator 19: Platinum Edition is the latest to come out of the Farming Simulator series; that is until 20 inevitably comes out for PC next year. I’ll be reviewing this game as a whole as we don’t have a standalone review for the base game. The Farming Simulator franchise has been around for over ten years now. That formula hasn’t changed all that much. Which depending on the type of player you are, it is either a good or bad point.
3D platformers are such a classic, important pillar of gaming; a critical part of 3D gaming’s coming of age, and yet they can be very difficult to do well by today’s standards. There are few games throwing their hat in the ring anymore, and most that do leave a lot to be desired, particularly when heavyweights like Mario Odyssey set the bar so incredibly high. A few attempts have been made in recent years to revitalize the genre, primarily by cashing in on old franchises or using the talent behind classic games to make new ones in the same style with middling success (I’m looking at you, Yooka-Laylee).
If you’ve dabbled in other tycoon/management sims before, you know that to make it fun and exciting, the game has to make the micromanaging actually enjoyable. A game where you don’t mind diving into menus as your business flourishes. It’s the feeling of chaos being wrangled in to produce your desired outcome. More money!
Puzzle games in 2019 are pretty tough to pull off. Once a staple genre of PC gaming in its infancy, modern experiences are often perceived as being so much more diverse and interesting in what they have to offer than your standard brain tickler. And it’s true that the exploratory, sometimes experiential games that made the genre successful in its early days don’t always have the same wide appeal as they once did, nor the punch and bombast of most action-oriented titles we play today.
Star Ocean is a series I never really appreciated when I was in my teenage years. I love RPGs, but something about this series just rubbed me the wrong way. Perhaps it was thinking the RPG was all about futuristic space. When in reality the series has mixed sci-fi with high fantasy. It’s something I adore now. There was one Star Ocean game I never had the chance to play though, the very first one. It never released in the US until a remake on PSP. Now years later, Square Enix has breathed new life into the franchise with the release on Switch and it’s everything I could have hoped for.
Everybody loves a good story involving dragons, treasure, and adventure. You know what else everybody loves? Reliving their old memories and feeling good. There’s a more concise term for that sensation, but I’ve thrown it around enough lately that I’m taking the scenic route instead.
LucidSound has been my go-to headset company for a few years now. This new iteration of their flagship headset assure me that trend will continue. The LS41s follow their predecessors in their comfortable ear cup design, flexibility in use, and quality sound. The LS41 headset makes some big new changes. Let’s dive in to those upgrades.
Well howdy there pardners! Let me tell you a story, one about a western game that once released digitally on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. A game about a lone gunslinger, coming into town to tell his story, much like I am right now. One filled with double barrel action, intense showdowns, and great variation. Now I know what you’re thinking “But how is the Nintendo Switch port?” Well, have no fear cowpokes as this is one western experience that does mighty justice to the genre and the system it’s on.
The last time we saw a story-based MechWarrior game was MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, back in 2002. After nearly two decades, we finally have a new game. Developer Piranha Games is no stranger to the franchise, having made and maintained MechWarrior Online since its release in 2013 — rest assured, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries in very capable hands. Command your own mercenaries to take on any mission you desire, and build-up a crew to be revered or feared as you shape your reputation within the Inner Sphere. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is a gorgeous romp through the BattleTech universe.
